Watched on the news that "during the bloody " revolt a brave (black) guard put himself in harms way leading rioters away through the building and the camera man never lost him! The camera / sound man somehow knew the path as they were ahead of the courageous guard.

You are likely right about the cameraman. The installed cameras in the Capital, and even worse in the attached Congressional office buildings are woefully few and inadequate for security.

Anything on the guardian, not one bit. Do I think there might have been some strategy from capitol police to avoid getting their asses kicked and maximize taking control, yes. The cop was communicating either where he was or where he was heading to his buddies. As far as the convenient cameraman, who knows. It may appear that there were multiple choices in the route but I believe both stairwells go to the same place just on either side of the next set of stairs.
