I know I have been away for 100 years, apologies for a drop in "please help me" thread. Any feedback would be appreciated. When I've tried to research this on my own I get - ten trillion hits on bullshit.

My father in law is one of my best friends and we've been talking shit for years about doing a trip like this. Hate to snowflake and say it but he's knocking out covid at 72 and doing very well but it has me thinking I don't want to regret not doing this while we both still can, just because I can't get off my ass and put it together.

Has anyone any experience in booking a good experience with a guide for black bear or moose somewhere gettable to from both NY and Michigan? Not looking for a zoo hunt or a "guaranteed" hit. I definitely can't say money is no object and I know northeast bear season is basically booked / shot for this fall at this point but- this is money I'd well spend, if it was money well spent.

Would prefer to avoid Canada but willing to entertain it.

Logistics and responsibilities. Otherwise I had a bunch of other things in mind.

I meant to mention it- I need him / me to get somewhere close to each other to embark from as we need my MiL and my wife to link up here or there for the time we're selfishly away, so I either need to get my wife to MI and embark, or get them here first.

a bunch of years ago i stopped into the local gun club here to check it out .. met a old guy in the club house .. he in he 70's or late 70's ..
we got talking about the club and who i was .. who was my dad .. come to find out he worked with my dad for over 20 yrs ..
he took me under his wing and got me shooting skeet .. and set me up with some bows he had for hunting with bow .. here take this and this bow and try them ..

and then he wanted to go hunting again for deer .. i hit the farm where i worked on as a teen and still hunt there .. ask the owner .. can i drive my truck up in the fields .. i got a friend of my dad who is in he 70's and hard for him to walk
and wants to hunt .. got the ok and took him out for his last deer hunt with crossbow .. we didn't see any deer .. but we had a great time ...

Sure...stab us in the back abandon the forum then ask us for help. j/k.........but not really.

Sounds like you need to do this right. Drop the wife in Michigan and either head north to the Upper Peninsula or west for Elk. Hire a guide for either option. I have a subcontractor that goes for Elk every year. I'll ask him for suggestions.

An archery club I used to belong to used to do annual trips to New Brunswick, spring bear and fall deer, I went twice, one bear, one deer, both were excellent. They used Slipp Brothers in New Brunswick.
