Gun Cleaning Mats - brand comparison

Nothing earth shattering but wanted to give feedback on gun cleaning mats, both purchased on Amazon

Falko brand was exceptional quality, I’ve had it for years and it is top notch.

Second one I received yesterday and it’s paper thin, no comparison to the falko.

If you’re in the market I’d definitely recommend Falko.

I spent $2 and got a few carpet tiles from a second hand store. Alternate I got a couple of pieces of wool based felt that I work on. More money for ammo.

S’long as it works, who cares. I have a mat that was my uncles he gave me when I was learning to shoot initially. Also a bright yellow microfiber cloth that I do 99% of my work on for high-contrast workS

Twice a year I run my bore snakes and felt gun mats through the laundry when the wife is not home. Cleans out the carbon, oil and probably some lead. Put the bore snakes in an old sock.

Oil, bore cleaner and gun scrubber cause those carpet tiles to disintegrate, leaving residue on your gun.

The synthetic mats that are chemical resistant are a much better option.

Folded old towel or other heavy rags. I save what wife wants to throw out. No need to buy anything for this.

I have a couple of the neoprene gun cleaning mats, BUT, I seem to always grab the folded up, old bath towel I keep under bench. When it gets dirty, my Wife just tosses it in the wash for me. I really do prefer the folded up towel, hasn't failed me yet.

I do this for cleaning rags. Old T-shirt’s make great tool towels.

Dollar store yoga mat. Cut small piece for pistols and remaining length for long guns.

get one of them mesh laundry bags and drop all your brass in and toss into the washing machine with some soap and lemi shine when the wife isn't home ..

i haven't tried it yet even thou single and have a washer .. but seen you tube vid on it .. brass came out pretty clean ..

I use an old sleeping mat from the Army. Hunks at a time, when too stained, I toss and grab another piece

I’m surprised nobody likes the gun mats. I use mine mostly as a padded surface so I dont scratch any of my nicer guns. If I am doing any cleaning I typically put a which cotton T-shirt over the mat and that catches all the mess. The mats just look good on the work bench and are occationally a good quick reference guide.

This is what I use my mats for. If I'm going to really tear into 1 of my guns, I use the mat for that particular gun. I have mats for about 4 or 5 different guns. They do work great for that. I know there's google, but, I just find it easier to use the mat when needed.

I use the gun mats as a reference occasionally but daily as a mouse pad.

I use the manufacturer propaganda mats they send my gun dealer every year. She give them to me and I put them to good use.

Old newspaper works just fine.Pretty sure my guns dont need a soft surface,they're guns fer christsake.
