I think that it is a paintball add on. PB versions exist. I suppose airsoft ones as well. Was looking at one on Craigslist a few months ago.
Each shell is charged with compressed air. They're around $100 used.

Fucking awesome. I was looking at a few 37mm smoke launchers, a bit expensive but they can shoot fireworks so I’ll pick one up.

I see now. That is a M79 " Bloop Gun" type unit. I originally thought it was a MP-5 with launcher.
They also make one that will mount under your AR M203 style.
