I have a dozen-ish handguns (you can view them in the handgun pic thread) never once did they come home alone. Some had 3 accompanying, some had 1 or 2. Understanding wife h e lps too.

I've been picking up a bunch of handguns and a few 22lr long guns over a short period of time, no problems anywhere.

I say buy what you find at a decent price.

While there currently is no legal limit that I'm aware of to the number you can buy I have been told by my FFL that 3 or more firearms at the same time (or within a short timeframe) may raise a red flag with the ATF and cause them to start asking questions. Take this with a grain of salt but it's reasonable to assume with the political agenda of these lettered .gov agencies that if you're picking up many firearms at the same time someone may get curious.

Perhaps some FFLs will chime in. @Bullet Guy ?

My girlfriend and I bought a Ruger SR1911, a Shield 9mm and a Benelli M4 shotgun at the same time. As well as 500 rounds of ammo, a sling and a can of Ballistol. The salesman/owner was very happy.

Friend passed a few years ago and had over 50 handguns on his permit..........I haven't heard of a limit..............................................yet.

There are no legal limits on exercising a Right... But, that said, their are liberties that municipalities take by instituting Bullshit fences to climb and hoops to jump through if and when you may exercise that right to a higher degree that what THEY consider REASONABLE and compel you to SUBMIT to additional scrutiny no subject to the exercise of other Recognized Rights.

I do not have direct experience but I was going to post a similar question under handguns concerning submitting several simultaneous ammendments for multiple purchases. I know of three people who said they had ATF visits when they bought a few guns (2 to 4). These were normal people who were surprised by the attention. They were subsequently told that a federal form is processed if 2 or more handguns are purchased within 5 working days from the same dealer. They also mentioned that an agent asked one of them why would they buy more than one similar handgun. Two of the people said the home visits were before the ammendments were processed and the other was asked to show they had possession. All said the agents were polite, informal, and brief. If I remember right this was in late 2008 or early 2009. Since I know of others making multiple purchases with no consequences, I had similar questions because I really feel the urgency to purchase multiple handguns as soon as my wife's and my permits are approved and I would hate to slow down a process that now takes the better part of one year or more.

Not necessarily more scrutiny. The ATF says that if you buy two or more handguns in the same week The FFL must submit a form for multiple handgun purchase. This form is kept by the FFL, sent to the local LEO, and sent to the ATF.

I have done several of these forms and nothing has come out of it. The information that you add to the form is almost exactly what is already on the NICS forms

When I came back from my last deployment I had to have out one of those filled out on me. The SASS vaquero set is two consecutive serial numbered single action revolvers. So that equals one automatically. Not to mention the other hand guns I was picking up that day.

Here's a question about this form.... I know the law says the ATF is not allowed to maintain data collected from purchases, which is based on the 4473. However, does that same law restrict storing data collected on this form?

Normally I get at least two of each. You never know when you need to keep both trigger fingers occupied.
however I think it makes more sense to invest aggressively in ammo and if you reload keep calibers cross compatible.
It is better to have 2000 bullets and a couple of pistols than 2000 pistols and a couple of bullets.

Since amendments take weeks to process, I like to send in amendments for more than one pistol at a time. You know...to make efficient use of time.

What county are you in? NYC? Ugh.
Westchester? Less ugh-ly. After your 4th gun the county is supposed to send detectives to your listed address to make sure you have a safe.

Just about to say the same thing. For me it's buy the gun (or guns) then probably take a day off of work to go to the Government Center to drop off the amendments then wait for the judge (Usually a week sometimes more) then take another day off to go and get the new permit card then off to purchase the gun(s). In short it's a pain in the ass process so I figure if you're going to do it you might as well double up or more on a purchase to save on the inconvenience. I've never bought more than one long gun at at time or more than two handguns at a time and never have had a visit from Barney Fife or his ATF equivalent.

A while back I bought a Ruger SR1911 an a Ruger Vaquero at the same time. One of the guys at the counter said they would have to fill out the multiple handgun purchase form that was alluded to in a post above. When I asked why he said it was something the ATF needs as a way to try and stop straw purchasers. The other guy chuckled and said, "Yeah, all the gangbangers in Newburgh are using those Cowboy Action revolvers for the drive-bys these days." Then he did an impression of a token homeboy by said "Drive around the block a few times. It's going to take at least 30 seconds to reload."

I've had two home inspections. First was when I applied for a 6th pistol. The second was, well , after several more.

Annoying? Yes. Pointless? Yes? A potential abrogation of 4th amendment right? I think so. But....painless. And, since I live in a Liberal utopia of a county, I've got no recourse.

Pretty much. Depends on County. For me every amendment needs to go before the judge for approval. It's a formality but it has to happen.
