Gun Safe Recommendations around $1200

Going to be moving home shortly and looking to add a better gun safe (currently just using a "gun cabinet")

Any recommendations in the $1000 - $1200 range to accommodate say 5 rifles and 4 handguns...............at the moment .................just dont tell my wife on the increase plan!!

Or am I not going to get too much in that price range?

To the OP I’m sure there are safe stores in your area since there are 3-4 near me. I’m going to go check out a few and see what I like. I’m finding you will likely have to spend a bit more to get a good safe by my definition. I want a better fire rating and one with a drill resistant plate that is hardened steel.

They have different tiers some "lightened up" for major retailers to meet lower price points so. just make sure is not the cheapest model and consider used ones if they are of good quality.
no much has changed on a US made quality safe from the 80s other than digital locks

alao look at the hollan BHS series. they have 10ga all around, 1.5" lofks with u channels and antidrill backplate.
there are other good ones and might need to spend a bit more rather than going down in price.
and be open to sacrifice a bit in features, color and bling for a more spartan yet stronger steel and locking mechanism.
the ones made for big retailers with a lot of features and season discounts tend to be bottom barrel choice when it comes to actual strength.
so look at the base specs and track record.

Brands might mean something or nothing at all since they have to have models to compete in the cheap retailer market with chinese made safes. Winchester has a couple of good ones but then also a lot cheap stuff. I would not go for a liberty centurion myself but they are better than the stack on garbage.


Also consider segregating having one that is the strong reliable one investment for the long term and most valuable stuff so it doesn't matter if it is an older model or does not have digital lock or led lights in exchange for strength and then a smaller, maybe cheaper with fast digital access for the day to day gun access.
have the other one hidden and bolted down and the cheap one more conveniently located and also would not matter if thieves get to that one and waste the time there.

nobody can steal something they cannot see or find behind a false wall.

Again nothing strong is going to be cheap so consider those factors and be open to spend a bit more.
