Would gun stores be considered essential services in this current atmosphere we’re in?
Just wondering. It is a right after all......

Well obviously in NY, but more generally
I was just at Runnings in Gloversville and the guy at the gun counter told me the only reason they are still open is sell livestock feed.

I'll head over to Thruway in the morning. I'm just wanting to pick up some more cleaning supplies, a few odds and ends. Nothing I really need but I've already been home since middle of February. Need..... to....... get...... out...... of......... house
This right here is what I mean. One could absolutely make a valid argument pertaining to this being essential services. Was just trying to make a point.
With that being said-
My LLS, (local liquor store), just informed me that the NYS Liquor Authority has deemed liquor stores “essential services” so they will be open their normal hours.

If someone need something from the LGS at this point in time, they are not very well prepared!!
Panic buying includes guns & ammo... Bet ya' there's lots of beef jerky flying off those LGS shelves too!
If you don't already have it, there's probably a good reason for that...
1. Those who already have it, are those individuals who are prepared and not subject to the tidal whims of despair or hysteria!
2. Those who don't have it - shouldn't bother, their inability to be prepared renders them moot point should the zombie apocalypse occur anyway. And they'll just provide food, gun & ammo to those who know what they're doing!

Illinois apparently is considering them essential services. Not NYS.
Having said that, the few LGSs I stopped at this prior week all basically were out of stock of anything worthwhile, especially ammo. Panic buying doesn't just apply to gun grabbing legislation.

Ain’t that the truth. I saw an opportunity get get some extra mags on the household budget and it’s a 3-4 week wait. Oh well can never have too many.

Until they specifically outlaw transfers and ammo sales, I'm still doing them. Why not. My regulars haven't magically stopped needing transfers and ammo or other supplies. The biggest issue is the inability to do handgun transfers due to no coupons being issued, and the slowed NICS background checks for long guns. I'm taking a few virus precautions like regularly cleaning shared surfaces...some of the regulars show up with face masks and gloves. I guess that some people like to be extra cautious. Life goes on, and I don't envision this thing ultimately being as bad as Cuomo is portraying it as being.

Runnings in Rome NY is open, as an essential business, and selling guns. (And NICS checks being processed) NY state pistol offices are shut down until May 18, and depending on the situation, the pistol offices may remain closed past that date. I checked with the Oneida County pistol office re their status, I was told they expect about 540 people there on May 18. - We'll get through this OK.

I think NICS might loosen up a bit as far as "technical problems" as more businesses shut down.
