The two rifles pictured in the thread "New .204 rifle being built" in this section were built for $ 1000 each. I could have saved a few hundred on each of them, but I used specific parts for a reason.
You can still buy a lower receiver. All the rest of the parts can be purchased online.
I bought the barrels, CMC triggers, charging handles linear compensators and gas tubes from JOEBOB OUTFITTERS.
I bought the uppers, upper parts kits, gas blocks, handguards, and pistol grips from MIDWAY.
I got the stocks, buffer tubes, lower parts kits, and bolt carrier groups from PALMETTO STATE ARMORY. With the exception of the BCG's, the rest of those parts came bundled as a builder's kit.
I bought the magazine locks and a few other parts from a local dealer.
You could do a build for a lot less than $1000, depending on what you want.
Be careful about the barrel. Some barrels chambered in .223 Wylde have somewhat tight chambers and can be fussy about ammunition. Unless you need the increased accuracy, stick with a 5.56 NATO chamber. It may save some headaches.
You're likely to run into the Nitride/Melonite/ Stainless dilemma. Do your research first to decide which barrel is right for you.
You can likely build something for about half your budget. I like palmetto State armory for budget builds. Never had an issue with any of there stuff. If I don't buy from them, it's usually primary arms. I also use Anderson stripped lowers pretty exclusively now. They're cheap, but never had one out of spec.
Only issue you have to sort first is which FFL out your way will transfer the lower. It's still legal, but a couple places have posted they won't transfer them.
I would build now. Can't go wrong with a decent build from Palmetto State. Get one of their hammer forged uppers, maybe upgrade the BCG to a DD or BCM. Add some nice optics. Grab a lower from anywhere (aluminum not plastic), use a good parts kit with a decent trigger. I like using Magpul stocks as well as other furniture from them.
Do it sooner than later. CONgress is ready to push another AW bill. Not sure if it will survive the Senate, but there are a lot of coward Republicans.
Im glad just last year I thought I should get a lower before I cant.....so I got one and then later got the rest of the kit from PSA........for 556 223........I still actually have to put it together but when things settle down....yeah never...
Good luck but yeah Id get them before you cant..I may pick up another stripped lower just to have!!!
