Nebraska becomes 17th state to call for Constitutional Convention
The vote was 32 for, 11 against, and 4 senators did not vote.
I heard that some very blue states are even looking at it.
People need to be careful for what they ask for.
Good Rights could be stripped away and vanish like a fart in the wind.
Holy shit guys... you do realize that an article V states convention is very specific in its scope? Meaning there will be specific amendments to be considered and not a cart blanc on the constitution. This is THE only way we will hope to see term limits for federal offices or a balanced budget amendment. This is the only way, short of revolution, to put the federal government in it's place and take it's power away.I don't know. Just like they were looking have a convention for the NYS Constitution I feel that no good can come of this.

The convention is conveined to consider specific amendments. Amending the constitution is no easy thing to do by design. This convention was written in as a safe guard agsinst a run away federal government. Much like we are seeing today. This circumvents the federal government and gives much needed power to the states. The majority of states are still on the side of the America you and I grew up in.I am very aware of it. Once the (A) convention begins, We The People have no say in what is discussed.
The convention removes the federal government entirely. Except for the feds having to provide a venue.Everything depends on who is in charge at the time of the Convention.

I will take state reps over federal reps any day of the week. The people may be on the right side, does not mean the elected class is.

Not really true. The delegates chosen to go the Constitutional convention are elected by the legislature of each state.

But I don't live in NY anymore so maybe I'm crazy.I will take state reps over federal reps any day of the week.
Yes it's true. They are delegates sent by the state legislatures and have nothing to do with the federal gov. Legislatures that are not NY actually have their state's best interest in mind, believe it or not.Not really true. It also says all spending bills must begin in the house.Holy shit guys... you do realize that an article V states convention is very specific in its scope? I hope you are correct. I don't trust lawyers. There was no "right" of abortion until a group of lawyers on the supreme court came up with the phrase "emanation of a penumbra". I am confident despite clear guidelines for the convention some ambitious left wing lawyer will try similar word games to grab power.Holy shit guys... you do realize that an article V states convention is very specific in its scope? Any law that doesn't have specific penalties for violating it is not a law, it's a wish.I hope you are correct. I don't trust lawyers. Revolution is the better option.Holy shit guys... you do realize that an article V states convention is very specific in its scope? Don't need an ammendment to pack the court.Revolution is the better option.
Nothing good will come from an Article V Convention, even if the proposed amendments are designed to reign in the federal government. This would become the most disgusting display of corrupt partisan politics ever to take place in the entire history of the world, and on an unfathomable scale.
What happens when there are conflicting amendments going through a convention of states and congress simultaneously? Do we put our faith in SCOTUS to sort that one out? No thanks. What if the amendments are to pack the court and eliminate the court? Would that make the Constitution unconstitutional?
We can either keep ignoring the Constitution and eventually have a revolution, or try amending it again and have a civil war. Either way, violence and suffering are in this countries future.
SInce I've lived in Utah, the state legislature has passed constitutional carry ( on top of other pro gun bills), are about to pass an income tax cut. They made it a priority to crush county level covid mask mandates, and they are fighting critical race theory in public schools.
I really wish more conservative NYers could get out of ny and realise that NY is a bubble of bullshit and not at all how the rest of the country thinks or operates.
