Rep. Anne Thayer said she believes something needs to be done to protect students, but she is not yet sure about the best way to do that.

"When we have schools that are gun-free zones, it does seem like we are almost inviting something like this to happen," Thayer said. "What happened in Townville was a tragedy. Maybe having people with CPWs and having armed officers is the right answer. Maybe you only need one or the other. But maybe you need both. I am certainly open to any discussion."

Wow someone gets it. I was at my sons school for a Halloween thing Friday night and of course I did not bring my gun because it's illegal, but honestly with all the people even parents dressed up it would have been so easy for some one to do some thing. Many parents were dressed up in masks and had capes or other things. I just do t get it. I understand they want the kids to have fun, but my head was on a swivel. Everywhere I looked I saw potential threats.

I hear you. Events like that can be very chaotic.
What really gets me is that every time I visit our schools, the front door is still not locked, or even wide open!

Why don't they make airport gun free zones too and avoid all the inconveniences and expense of TSA security?
BECASUE GUN FREE ZONES DO NOT WORK.

"Heisenberg uncertainty principle". It proves that there is no such thing as zero tolerance. It doesn't exist. You basically can't be 100% sure of anything no matter how hard you try.

Most of us are not passionate about causes until it happens to us, impacts us, or forces itself on us.

We are all better citizens for taking time out of our lives considering the impact of "things" happening around us. This way very little catches us by surprise.

Your house is flooded? At least you were aware you lived in a flood plain.
Cancer is ugly?
Under-insured motorists exist?
Mental illness is real?
Our most valuable non-tangible assets (our children) are sent off like fish in a barrel every day?
Government is corrupt?
Taxes are onerous?
Fiscal policy / social security/ medicare is unsustainable?


None of the above is meant to come across as cynical. It is truly horrific and f***ing unfair for you (or me) to bundle our kids off to school and have some whackadoodle molest them or shoot them up. And even less fair if we had the means to mitigate that.

I am sorry to hear of the loss of this child.

I do not agree with paying armed guards at our schools. Our school taxes are high enough as it is. I do not want to pay more to make people feel better.

The chances of winning the lottery AND getting struck by lightning in the same day.

Throwing money at a problem does NOT make it go away.

Here is an idea that is 100% FREE, GET RID OF GUN FREE ZONES!!!!!!!
