Oh ok, I assumed they did because my GT3 came with one.

That radio is new. I've never seen it before.Oh ok, I assumed they did because my GT3 came with one.
Picked it up in '16, I think it's discontinued now. There was another GT3, the GT3-TP that I have is a tri power, 2/5/8watts. Maybe the tri power option wasn't selling well as most people will just leave it at 8watts. At 2watts you would conserve a lot of battery for short range comms though. The tests I watched on YT were pretty positive with good range results. I don't recall for sure but I think most of them were from the UK though. So maybe it just wan't very popular here in the US.That radio is new. I've never seen it before.
I have the BF-F8HP. It's a tri powered 8 watt too. My guess is that they just keep changing the colors to sell radios.Picked it up in '16, I think it's discontinued now. It came with the upgraded Sain Sonic antenna but I kinked it last summer, just received my new antenna from Signal Stuff today. Really nice quality and it's crazy flexible. You can almost tie the damn thing in a knot lol.
I just checked the Baofeng tech website, they are discontinued from their inventory.
It's this one https://www.amazon.com/BaoFeng-chan...515544665&sr=8-7&keywords=baofeng+gt3+mark+ii
Yeah I'm not sure what the differences are but everything about them from what I seen is identical. Might be in the circuitry. Otherwise from the look right down to the programming, they are the same. They also had a GT3-WP, water proof, for all that's worth lol.The GT3-TP mach 3 is what I saw, I guess it is the most recent model. Not positive, I believe the ad I noticed said it came with a programming cable.
I should have had my tech a while back but my wife has ended up in the hospital a few times so I stopped working at it for the time being, I need to get back at it.So, I ordered a different antenna for my UV-82. The stock one seems to be about as effective as a stick. Waiting for my Nagoya NA-24J...and studying for my Technician ticket while I'm at it.
Any of you greater Binghamton area folks ever hit any of the GMRS repeaters? There's one in Chenango Bridge/Hillcrest and one in Endwell.
Try a regular non GRSM repeater. So, I ordered a different antenna for my UV-82. The stock one seems to be about as effective as a stick. Waiting for my Nagoya NA-24J...and studying for my Technician ticket while I'm at it.

That will work when he gets his tech ticket. I've got them in my Icom so when I do get around to taking the test I'll be GTG.
No. With that said, if you are on a frs, or murs frequency, no one will ever know.Simple question: Are these legal to use as a simple "walkie-talkie" on any of the channels without an FCC license?
I have mine set to listen only to public safety frequencies. I turned off the transmit frequencies to those public safety frequencies so I don't transmit by accident.I guess I should have asked that question first, shouldn't I?
Time to try and figure out a use for the ones I bought lol
That's how I'm looking at it now, not as money lost, but an investment if things go south. I was hoping for a decent way to communicate when me and my boys are camping, so I'll have to keep looking for those.I have mine set to listen only to public safety frequencies. I programmed a bunch of FRS and MURS frequencies to use for emergencies.
It's not money lost. It's a survival communications system. I have 4 radios for when the power goes out.
Dude, you can use them camping. Use an unoccupied channel, no one will bother you on the FRS channels. That's how I'm looking at it now, not as money lost, but an investment if things go south. Time to try a climb the learning curve on the chirp program.....
all us hams should get a vanity call .. mine now is N2ZVG .. i'm thinking N2FUAC ..
Did you get the official cable?Time to order another cable, I guess.
This may sound stupid but did you actually put frequencies into chirp to upload into the radio?So..... I got chirp to read the radio, made saved cloned image of it, but now, if I try to upload to the radio, it starts, the green LED lights up on the radio, then the radio power cycles, and the upload bar on chirp stops....
I tried to reinstall the cloned img file, but it does the same thing, starts the upload, power cycles, then locks up.
ETA: Looking at the images online, it seems I may have received a knock-off cable.... No logo, or markings, just a giant USB end, and a two prong radio end.
I am a licensed GMRS operatorI have six of these suckers. They are disposable at this price but I have never had to toss one. Use them mostly for FRS/GMRS (and yes, I shelled out 90 bucks for the FCC license).
I got 4 radios in total; a three pack, and another that came with the cable. This may sound stupid but did you actually put frequencies into chirp to upload into the radio?
Because if it actually allowed you to upload a clone, the cable isn't the problem.
Delete the previous clone. Factory reset the radio, upload to chirp, put in frequencies, and download back to the radio.I got 4 radios in total; a three pack, and another that came with the cable.
I installed the cable, and cloned the first radio.
Then I added all the FRS and GMRS channels to the list.
I renamed the FRS bands, then tried to reload the list to the radio.
It locked up about 1/2 way through, so I hit cancel, and nothing happened.
I then hit the X on the upload window, and unplugged the radio to check it.
Some of the changed had been applied, some had not.
When I unplugged the cable, I got a blue screen of death on my laptop.
I rebooted, and was able to write the clone img to the radio once.
From there, any changes I have tried to make have resulted in the upload going about 1/2 way, then locking up.
When it locks up, as soon as the cable is unplugged from the computer, I get a BSOD.
The radios work, but none of the programming is taking to them.
Used the Menu to reset it, scanned it, added the default FRS channels from chirp, and uploaded them.Delete the previous clone. Factory reset the radio, upload to chirp, put in frequencies, and download back to the radio.
