Manually put them in chirp. Copy them from a website. When the radio reboots and goes dark and shows all it's icons, that's normal. At that point you can unplug it from the cpu.

I uninstalled the driver, and chirp, then did a clean install of both just to be sure. Still have it locking up when the radio power cycles, and blue screen when the cable is unplugged from the computer. I am taking a break from this for a little while, it's not helping my attempt at cutting back on smoking....

Where are you located? Maybe someone close can try another cable. I've had no issues with mine but it is labeled Baofeng.

There's a Yaesu 2m radio in the for sale section someone might like. Could easily throw in your vehicle or build a radio pack with it

I just read that the FCC has notified the US baofeng dealers that their VHF/UHF radios must be made compliant to our regs. So from now on these radios will only be able to transmit on ham, GMRS and MURS freqs.
I make my living in the comms industry..FWIW and my 2 cents, take a minute to look at other, more field-friendly options before purchasing these programmable baofengs..... laptops, glitchy software and counterfeit cables are the last thing anyone needs to be dealing with during or after shtf.

Wow...thanks for the heads up...this is a big deal and I hope the other 2 ITU regions can stop this stupid proposal. FCC will enforce ITU regs.

From what I hear, this is being pushed heavily by Thales, who makes mil radios and stuff. Also in the sights is the 23cm band (1240-1300Mhz). I'm not sure anything will come of it, in the US, as the vast majority of licensed amateur use is on 2 meters.
