Handguners, friendly online competition?

So I have been thinking about this for some time and was wondering if anyone else would be interested in this.

Similar to the monthly challenge put on by @wdsdmmat but it's handgun skills drills.

Thought behind this: all of us that carry a handgun have a moral obligation to be proficient with our chosen handgun. But we should also try and improve as much as we can and become better. It's one thing to take a class, or go to the range and shoot, b
ut it's just as important to set standards and try to meet them and even exceed.

My Goal: Through friendly online competition we motivate eachother to become more proficient with our carry guns by setting our standards and working to improve.

I have picked 3 drills as the standard one (listed and explained below) that I feel are not only good drills for skill building but also no special targets would need to be purchased you could print them off or even make your own (or buy them) and as for the shot timer there are some phone apps if you want that arent the best option but could work as a starting point and always get an actual shot timer later down the road

So the 3 drills I have picked are the

5x5 Drill. 30 round course of fire
Five 5" targets at 5 yards 5 rounds. (I'll post up a link to the targets that can get printed off, 2 per paper, 3 papers for a total of 6 targets)

1st target is a warmup target no time 5 rounds to verify POA/POI

Next you move on to the timed runs, each of the final 5 targets are shot individually for a time with 5 rounds per target, adding all the times together for your final time (we can decide penalties together for misses)




Next drill is the Bill Drill. 6 rounds course of fire

This is shot using a NRA 25yard pistol target. But se are using it for the 5.5" black center target so you can make your own if you'd like.

This can be shot at 3/5/7 yards (different par times for different distances)

Simple but difficult. Just draw from concealment and fire 6 rounds into the 5.5" target.


And lastly is the No Fail Bill Drill

25 yards 10 rounds same target as the Bill drill. Only difference is this drill MUST be shot "cold" meaning no warm ups no practice shots, get to range set up and first thing you do (if you want to do this drill correctly) shoot this drill and no reshoots.

Course of fire.
At buzzer, draw from concealment fire one round. Reholster and repeat 9 more times. Goal is all 10 rounds in the black, if at any time you miss the black drill is over and failed

So this was all easier to explain in my head than writing it out.

But hopefully i got the general idea across, and and any questions or more clarification I can help with let me know.

End goal is each of us find out were we are in the beginning and continue to improve the best we can while having a way to see our improvement


Deer season starts next Saturday and I wont be doing much other than that gun wise myself but after that really going to focus on getting more proficient and maybe some of you will join me and we can have fun doing so

I'm interested. A lot depends on the weather if I have to use the outdoor range. I have to check on how to get access to the indoor range.

Its 2019 I dont use cave people tools to hunt hahahhaha

Nice yea I'm thinking more of a post up pictures/time/ score any time people go. Shoot any or all the drills how ever many times in the month.

We can all see who shot what drill the best that month and pretend to high five them and then start again the next month

But yea short version, same 3 drills all timed but more or less for personal progression but 2nd goal is see how others do and maybe push ourselves to get better

Picked the 3 drills I did because they dont need super difficult targets to buy or make, can print most off or even draw a target. Since the main goal is to get out and train for proficiency if I was to draw a 5.48" circle and you draw a 6" circle it's not a big deal since in the end we are competing against our self

Cool, I think everyone should shoot their carry gun every so often to keep proficient. Anything to get and keep people shooting.

another option is the dirty bird targets. They are 8 inches but, the scoring rings can be used as markers to grade improvement over time.

And ok I got part of the Bill drill wrong

It is shot on an IDPA or IPSC silhouette (we can put up dimensions and people can draw or make their own)

And its 6 rounds from concealment all A zone hits
