Handguns purchasing limit

Is there a limit to how many handguns I can own in New York? I'm almost positive the answer is no (I'm sure if this were the case I would've read you guys talking about it here) yet I keep hearing people bringing this topic up. I've heard 3 different people bring this up now. Maybe they're mistaken that NYC's handgun laws apply to the whole state?

I know for a fact that my boss has 200 handguns in his collection. He has a giant stack of permit cards. He has been collecting handguns since he was 21 and he never sells a single gun.

Yea, I thought this was not true, but then why do I keep hearing people say stuff like this? One guy told me that he was going to stay at 4 handguns because he was afraid that once he has 5 that he could possibly be inspected to make sure he's safely storing them. That guy lived in Westchester.

I've noticed that a big part of keeping NY citizens unarmed is the constant confusion around gun laws. I talked to two different people at my last job that thought that the permit process that applied to handguns applied to all guns. They were shocked to know that they've could've owned a pump action shotgun that day.

There is nothing in NYS (fake) law to say that there is a limit.

However, each issuing judge has his own pseudo-restrictions.

I'd heard that the judge in Orleans County would want an inspection and a discussion if you reach 20. But that was only word-of-mouth, so take it with a grain of salt.

When I had a NYC license many moons ago the limit was 5.
When upstate went to plastic cards I was in line behind a guy who had 93 on his license. Had a running commentary on where each was hidden and what grandchild, nephew or niece each was going to.

It depends on the exact gun. If you are purchasing multiple of the same model and it happens to be a gun that is favored by criminals then yes you might get a visit. I know if you were to buy 5 or 6 SCCY CPX2 pistols at the same time it could trigger a visit as that is an inexpensive which is commonly used by the criminal element in the commission of crime

if you were to buy 5 or 6 Ed brown pistols at the same time you most likely would not get a visit.

I can speak from experience that I have never got a visit when I bought multiple Glocks or AR’s at the same time.

Times have changed and they are doing them more frequently now. I bought two pistols and an AR lower but the AR lower had just come in in the day I went to pick up my pistols. The FFL asked if I wanted to wait while he logged it into his books and I could take it. I said nah I have to come back anyway and I’m not sure it’s good to do that many checks at once. He said good idea and it will avoid a multiple purchase report or whatever it’s called. We’ve seen the bodies of the ATF showing up at peoples doors too. Will it happen?? I don’t know but I’d rather avoid it.

Sounds like he was going for the high score. If we can't get them to shut down the re-cert program, the least we can do is overload it.
