Happy Birthday to me (New Ar Build)

Decided I wanted to do a new build for my birthday (End of March).

Some parts are still in mail...so goes the waiting game...


Never had a 20" upper so here goes...:


Upper:
20" fluted 1/7 yhm melonite barrel
15" seekins keymod rail
Low pro nitrided gas block
STD charging handle (for now, have multiples in the bin)
PSA premium BCG (hpt/mpi)
Sig folding sights (made by sampson)
3-10x Weaver Mil Dot scope in a Warne mount (sitting in the safe, no cost)


Lower:
Stripped Anderson lower (poverty pony! Aka idgaf about the picture on the lower)
Cmmg lpk minus fcg
Larue mbt 2 stage trigger
Areo buffer tube kit
Thordsen gen 3
H2 brownells buffer (have an h and a carbine to tune as needed)


Future mods not in the budget this month:
Seekins Ambidextrous charging handle
Ambidextrous safety



I hope by the end of the month I can take it out with my 18" mid length Wilson barrel upper and put some 75 gr hollow points to work.

For what they are, those newer Thordsen's are nicer than the older ones (I am a featureless guy so that is not meant as a knock on you!)

They are nicer and less plant of the apes looking. I went with a blemished enhanced. I've never had a problem with any of their blems, nor even been able to find the blem on most of them.

Notable parts I considered but didn't go with:


Giessle charging handle (already have 2, just so darn pricey)
PSA single stage cassette style trigger (larue was less expensive, field serviceable, and more reliable with hard primers)
PSA nib premium bcg
Tool craft nitride bcg
Magpul mbus pro sights (I like em to lock in the up position)


I was shocked how cheap bcg are (psa doing nitride for $54, aim for $69) I will stock up on spares soon. Still I prefer everything mil spec for front line use.

I was shocked how price sights have gotten ($200+ for good features) Scopes and red dots are cheaper....

You can really do a seriously cheap build now too. Might try that sometime with a blemished $50 gen 2 thordsen.

Aero Precision always has great sales. You just have to catch the sales at the right now sales on already reduced price items such as blems. So a discount for the blemish and sale price on top of that you can get some nice lowers, uppers and barrels.

My friend picked up a complete .308 upper that was marked blemished and we couldn't even notice anything.

I'm honestly pretty impressed with the Anderson lower.

I would love an ar10. Maybe someday.


I don't feel like I cheaped out as much on this one. I usually use bcm buffer tubes, but the areo seems even nicer? (Blasphemy I'm sure.) The only el cheapo thing is the psa premium bolt, but if it's good enough for battle field Las vegas...
