Done it a few times, many years ago when I shot almost daily. Most memorable times were when a customer had an Ed Brown 1911 that was shooting "6 inches to the left" - "um I don't think so" -"this guns sucks" BANG - center punched "Nope, it's fine". And the time an old timer had a Blackhawk with .44 Special handloads benchresting, that offered to let me shoot it. Off hand, BANG "Wow, these ARE nice loads." Shook his head, packed up and left. Back then my trick shot was with my Sig 220 - I would cut off the front of a box of ammo and place it 90 degrees off center, shooting at the edge at 25 feet. I could cut it in half within a mag full (8 shots). The other was a target hung at 21 feet, shot with a garbage bag o er my head, with a Smith Airweight .38. Grab it off the bench, push straight out, fire five shots fast. Usually a fist sized group . . .
