If Oahu lost power and all imports for 3 months. Yikes. They would be eating each other. That island is so densely populated.
On the other islands sure especially the big island.

Yea... And in 1962 electronics were not nearly as vulnerable as they are now. And to make it worse there are nuclear warheads specifically designed to increase their EMP yield and damage.
