I definitely don't know everything going on but armenia seems like a decent country and turkey is pro Azerbaijan and against armenia so that helps me decide armenia is probably in the right.

I've read up on the armenian genocide and it's completely barbaric. I can't believe it's not more widely known or talked about.

I've been vaguely aware of this due to having worked with an Armenian immigrant who was just as interested in history and with whom I swapped service stories (him from the Soviet Army before the dissolution). This conflict has been going on for a very long time and has yet to draw Russia and Turkey in directly. It's a very weird web of supporters.
The U.S., Russia, and (I just learned today) France are the big players that support Armenia. Iran seems to be pro-Armenia as well. Strangely to me, Israel joins with most Muslim countries in supporting Azerbaijan. Also, it seems like all the countries that Russia has given the shaft recently like Ukraine and Georgia support Azerbaijan.
I don't see much reason for most of the world to intervene. With America and France supporting Armenia, I doubt NATO would support Turkish intervention and Turkish intervention would almost certainly draw Russia to give Armenia material support. Turkish direct intervention would more than likely screw Azerbaijan as it wouldn't stand a chance if Russia intervened on Armenia's behalf. If Iran also jumped in in Armenia's favor, Azerbaijan would be extra-screwed. I don't see the U.S. likely to get involved.

We only cared because of their geographic location was convenient for us.

Russia and Armenia have mutual defense agreement as well as several other former Soviet republics. Putin stated that Russia will abide by the agreement if Armenian territory is invaded. However current conflict is on what is Internationally recognized as Azerbaijan territory and Russia maintains good relations with both countries.

Throughout history Russia took the role of a defender of persecuted Christian minorities from the Ottomans and Persians. Pretty much all of these minorities as nations sided against Russia at every opportunity they had. Bulgaria for example wouldn't even exist as a country if Russia didn't fight a war with Turkey to stop Bulgarian genocide. Bulgaria sided against Russia in two world wars and currently a member of NATO. Russia defended Georgians from total extermination by the Persians. Independent Georgia became hostile to Russia. Although Greek people are very friendly and sympathetic to Russia, Greece is a member of NATO. Greek Orthodox Church leadership undermined the influence of Russian Orthodox Church in Ukraine.

Unfortunately, the Greek Orthodoxy has turned the way of Catholicism. Both churches are worried about the $. The Greek church has splintered. Their is the “old calendar“ that acknowledges and sides with the Russians; and the modern Greek Orthodoxy that condemns everyone except themselves.
