Hello from Western NY

Already started a couple of threads but now for a bit about me. I have lived in the north east all of my life and bounced around NY, MA and CT. Currently married with children in the Rochester area. Got heavily into paintball in 1999, played tournaments and scenario paintball all over the country and even help start a paintball field in Troy NY. Shooting paintball guns had always been enough for me until this past year with all of the civil unrest and a family to protect. Now I find myself lumped in with all of the other first time gun buyers trying to purchase their first firearms and having issues with the SafeAct laws and how they affect law abiding gun owners. I have always been for gun right just never felt the need to purchase one until this year. Three months after attempting to make my first purchase, I am still waiting to be able to take possession of a rifle due to the insane SafeAct provisions but there is a different thread I started to rant about those things.

The SafeAct sucks but you can still get an ok rifle with acceptable performance. Its going to be awhile until we will be able to own legit rifles so you can either deal with the limits or buy a different platform not limited by the SafeAct.....mini 14, shotgun....

Caught in the endless loop. On my third background check so far (second for this purchase, canceled the first purchase) and have gotten nothing but delays at this point.

Navigating NY's insane laws can be very frustrating and especially while new to it trying to learn and understand them.


2 things.


1- you can buy a long gun and go home with it same day. Provided you can actually find something in stock you like (very difficult right now due to the panic) and that you pass the NICS check.


2- get working on your pistol license ASAP. Its very time consuming and the sooner you start the better.




Just remember how frustrated you are right now the next time some idiot talking head goes on about how easy it is buying guns. Or that it's too much of a burden to show ID to vote. You're currently stuck in the pit of misery trying to exercise your 2a right.


The more new gun owners the better. I think it's great. Since you seem to be a pretty competitive paintball player all the same basic rules will carry over and you are already more aware than a random first time gun owner, so that's good but it definitely wouldn't hurt to take some classes either.

This is a competition where noone has won, nobody wanted to win and we just lost more than the other loser ( NY vs CA)

I played paintball on and off in the 90's. I had a green single shot pistol (can't remember its name--ran on the tiny c02 cannisters), then eventually upgraded to a used king cobra, which worked well when it worked, but was not very reliable. Then didn't play again for years, then bought a Tippman 68 in 2000 and was in awe at how far the guns had come. That thing was reliable as hell.

It should go to proceed since the only convictions I have ever had were for driving uninsured in my 20's (almost 30 years ago at this point.).

Can't imagine that will be a problem for the pistol. The long guns if you're still having issues it's definitely some weird mixup, as those should have been approved right away.

Welcome. You’re realizing the same things any serious first time gun owner realizes... we have allowed this to happen because we weren’t paying attention. The more new gun owners that are paying attention means maybe we can stop it from getting worse. Reversing it might not be possible until monkey face is voted out.

I have not played at any of them. I went to NVP last week to fill a tank and can not believe how smaller that place is. I have not played paintball in this area since my AXBL days. That league died in 2009. I moved here in October 2018 and have not played since I got here. I played a lot in the Albany area, and travel games.

I played in the 1st 3man at NVP, I think the picture is still on the wall ahhahaha its a decent place for what it is, GRC is a solid field. Rob has done a lot of great work over the years, Lockout used to (might still) play out of there

Considering that I am stuck in the infinite loop for my lowers, I will likely be looking to get some time in on the paintball field soon. Maybe I'll check out GRC
