Help identifying a Bushmaster AR

I buddy of mine recently passed and through his he left me a few things one of which is a Bushmaster AR15. I ask the person to send me all the stamped details on it. Its a Bushmaster AR15 E2S Windham ME. Barrel is stamped B MP .556 NATO 1/9 HBAR with a crown cut muzzle. Serial Lxxxxx.
I haven't found much on the internet. It has a A3 removable handle, 20" free floating barrel and what appears to be an aluminum hand guard, no front sight.

Probably some sort of target or varmint model.

Any info or experiences with it would be appreciated

Is the serial number L051000 or below? That makes for an approximately 2x difference in value as the ones under that range are confirmed preban and still get a premium in a few places.

I *might* know someone that bought this exact or similar model in 2012. I'll check the serial number for you. I've attached the user manual - hope that helps.

Quite alright! If the serial number range is right sell it to one of the remaining pre-ban states. Also, the specific model of Bushmaster is almost irrelevant, there is no collector value to particular models. Just whatever configuration it's in will judge how desirable it is.

Those were basic but with very decent parts.
Is there anything specific you are looking for?
Otherwise I am going to say just shoot it to see how you like it.

Its not in NY, so I can't really see what kind of shape it is in. I just never seen one like that with a tubular handguard. Usually rifles with a crown are either for target or varmint variants.

I wouldn't sell it anyway and if I were to bring to NY at the moment I would have to change the stock for compliance BS.

He never spoke to me about this particular firearm. Not sure when it was produced, or if it came from the factory in that configuration. I haven't found much online other than slightly similar ones.

I guess I can contact Bushmaster with the serial number and they could give some info.

The one left to me appears to have something missing at the bottom of the pistol grip..

To me it appears to be some sort of varmint or target model or he was turning it into one.

If you have that same pictured, was it sold in that configuration and is it a decent shooter.

I have no idea how many rounds are through it but he didn't shoot much in the last 18 years..

I am going to keep it anyway but if is a good shooter, fairly accurate then maybe I turn it in a varmint rig.

The one I have shoots very well with 55 grain bullets. It is nearing the need for a new barrel now because I have over 10,000 rounds through it, but still shoots respectably. It has the exact same aluminum handguard, and came with a standard pistol grip. The front sight base was milled from the factory and turned into nothing more than a gas block. In your picture there is a stud installed at the front of the handguard - that isn't a factory item. I think I bought mine around 1995. At that time, there were very few aftermarket parts or accessories for the AR, not like today. The only problem I ever had with mine was an issue with the extractor, where it would cut small flakes of brass from the cartridge case and they would get lodged in the ejector hole and cause an ejection malfunction. Replacing the bolt solved that in a hurry. Having a heavy barrel with a rifle length gas system coupled with an A2 type rifle buffer made for a smooth shooting gun, but it has that distinct boing sound from the buffer spring. What is now Wyndham Weaponry was the original Bushmaster and was known for high quality rifles.

I found a similar rifle on a gun action website basically identical with SN very close to the one I mentioned. It says its a Bushmaster Ar15 E2s V Match..same solid tube handguard with bi-pod lug.

I was sent pics of the magazine and clearly they are 20rds.......10 maybe? Which was provided with the V Match variant.

Optional A3 carry handle was offered as well as a target grip which had a wide base attachment at the bottom of the pistol grip. Clearly something was attach to the grip on this rifle.

Anyway I'll get getva look at it this summer when I head that way.

I'll need to either lock the mag or change the stock to make it compliant.

You can replace the mag release button with a t-nut from Home Depot for 25¢. If you want something that looks good, works, meets the letter of the law*, and is easily reversible, then I'd suggest the Prince 50 or similar. They're usually around $20. Unless @fnfalguy still has some in stock.

If you decide to go this route, I'd also suggest an extended take down pin. It will make it easier to open for reloads. I would not suggest it for a defensive use, but for a range toy or hunting rig, it's ok. It's what I used on my AR pistol that I used for hunting.
