Does anyone have thoughts on lever action side loading gates with 357?

I am hearing that for physically small rounds like 357, that reloading is a difficult chore and quickly wears thumbs out. Same people liked side loading gates with larger rifle rounds. Without being able to get the Mrs out to play with some PCC side loading gate lever actions, I'd like hear some with experience.

I like the thoughts of a NY legal supressed PCC.

Threaded barrels are not prohibited on non-semi rifles such as Lever or bolt action. NY would be an issue for bringing an NFA suppressor in to the state but the PCC does not have to have the threads nuetered. There is a legal supressed solution I've previously brought up on this forum but that 45 is not a Home Defense tool, but it is a good plinking or varmit tool.

I have a Henry side loader, but in 30/30. It’s a pleasure to load through the gate. So much so, that I’ve all but forgotten about the tube loading option. I suspect that if I were hunting with the rifle, the option to unload safely via the tube would be nice. But I don’t, so it’s a moot point for me.

I’ve had my eye on that new X series. Seems pretty cool. I’d def get mine in 357/38, so I could have the option of plinking with cheap .38, or going HAM with some hot .357 loads.

It’s just hard for me to get such a classic rifle without that beautiful walnut furniture!

Yeah... no.

The reloading is a "chore" because you're loading 10 or 12, not 3 or 4.
In any case, the trick to easy loading is to leave the tail of each round sticking partly out of the gate, which makes it trivial for you to find the tube with the next round.

I have Marlin 1894C and 1894CP. No sweat filling the tubes with .357 or .38. Remember the great .22 shortage? I was reloading wad cutters for about $.05 a round. Putting 100 down range was easy.

Henry rifles are probably some of the finest rifles in the world. when I bought my Remlin (Remington/Marlin) 1895, 45-70, it was because I CAN NOT STAND large caliber TUBE FED rifles. Not even a 22.

Had Henry Rifles had a side gate, I would have bought it.

But, I added some stuff to my 1895 to make it 'mine'

I don't have a Henry, but I've played with a Rossi extensively. Not any more of a chore to load than any other lever gun.

Who comes up with this stuff?

You know what's a chore? Fresh Glock mags are. Your thumbs will be sore.

Ranger Point Precision has a "fly weight" side gate for Marlin's. I put one on my 1895, the factory side gate has (I think) 11 pound push, the RPP fly weight drops it to 4 or 5 pound push, very easy to get the boolets in and out

Wait I want to hear what NY legal suppressor option there is.. because even the SilencerCo Maxim 50 isn't legal in NY

I wasn't referring to a suppressed firearm but to some of the more exotic larger bore pre-charged pneumatics that stay subsonic.

I forgot the 2 in the previous post.
Also won a Henry 45/70 three years ago.
The only things ive ever won.
