Hey, been lurking for a bit, but finally joined so i can be involved in some awesome discussions and get a little info, as needed. I was born and raised in the city, Staten Island borough, and still own a home there. I also have a primary residence in NJ, and thats where i am licensed for rifle, shotgun, and pistol. Lastly i own over 25 very rural acres in upstate NY, Ulster Co.
I love going up there and target practicing, and NO i do NOT bring my Jersey registered handguns up there, ONLY my long guns and shotguns, and YES they are safe act compliant. I would like to try to get my pistol permit for Ulster co, using my upstate cabin and property address, so then i can target practice with handguns up there, but not sure if that is feasible.
Even without the handguns, its a lot of fun shooting on my own land, whether its my ruger 10/22 for plinking, or my NY safe act compliant ARs for ringing some gongs up there. My property has barely any neighbors, and is surrounded by thousands of acres of state land. I can shoot prone, from a tree, from an atv, or sitting in a beach chair, and the ONLY structure around is my little cabin.
Its perfect for hunting too, but i do NOT hunt. That said, the previous owner still has tons of tree stands all around the property. There are deer, bear, turkey, coyote, pheasant, grouse, and tons more small game. Again, i dont hunt at all, but it certainly would be a hunters paradise, I am content with just relaxing up there, enjoying mother nature, a campfire under the stars, and shooting a few reactive targets here and there.
I have to look into the feasibility of using my cabin/property address for a pistol permit up there. I do go up there a lot during the year, and stay for long periods of time, even residing by myself sometimes. I wonder id i can get my pistol permit there. Eventually my plan is to sell off the land in NY and buy the same or more in Pennsylvania with 2 or 3 homes for family, and have less gun restrictions.
For now, its New Jersey ranges, and upstate NY land. Thanks for reading. I look forward to some lively discussions , and absorbing the wealth of knowledge of everyone here. Oh and lastly, and most important FUAC!!!
