When I'm on the 90 I'm a good little boy and set cruise around 70. Only exception is when you can get a rare convoy of a large number of cars moving at high speed and potential to get hidden in the mix while a sacrificial lamb out front gets the ticket.

Good heavens, we were up in north east ADK last week and the number of state cruisers looking for speeders was outrageous.

As for lending a long gun to a family member or friend (assuming they never handled/owned a gun before). For me it's not so much that they keep their mouth shut about borrowing it. It would be whether the person is capable of handling the firearm safely.
(I have a few friends and family member that I would not lend a shotgun to because of safety concerns.)

I assume you're talking about lending a handgun to a family member or a friend for self defense... for a day or week.
If we're talking about lending a handgun (in NY) to family or a friend who does not posses a handgun license. The answer is NO.
I would have a problem with lending a handgun to anyone. Especially someone that does not have a handgun lic & no experience. What if the friend/family member shoots someone/ them-self (whether it's in self defense or accidental.) That's going to come back to the owner of the handgun.
(imo, tell them to apply for their handgun license. better late than never.)

No I did not mean a handgun in NY. I didn't think I had to specify that as it is an obvious answer.

My bad. fixed it.
I don't have a problem with a friend or family member borrowing a long gun as long as I feel they can handle it safely.
Who's to say they didn't inherit or purchased it before the safeact (if they get questioned.)

I've borrowed a friend's rifle barrel shotgun for deer hunting (shotgun only zone. )

I had several NYC friends ask me if their wives and children could stay with me in Orange County if things got dicey in NYC after 9/11. They also asked me if they could borrow a gun. Yes to wives and children; No to borrowing gun.

When they looked at me sideways I told them " You're an adult, act like one."

Based on the law, you can legally transfer a firearm without an FFL to someone in your immediate family (mother, father, spouse, brothers, sisters, children). So, if that was the family that would want to borrow one, you're good. This does not extent to in-laws. If it's a different type of family member, I wouldn't.

Genius. We should set up a protest like that. Start with one old grandfather and go down the line. Have a minister marry people when the line stops.

I believe it was Washington State, when they passed their "universal" bgc law, it was so poorly written that powder actuated nail guns met the definition. Legally, any construction worker that had to use one would have to get a bgc or they couldn't share it.

One of the protests included a mass of people just passing guns back and forth throughout the crowd.
