Hi all!

I've already had quite a long introduction to people in another thread (https://nygunforum.com/threads/in-case-you-are-bored.24763/) but I figured a formal introduction was appropriate anyway.

I'm not from NY, I'm from Texas. I came here as part of, shall we say, a foreign exchange program with the Liberal Gun Club. Yes, I'm a liberal, but I'm friendly, I promise!

A little bit about me that I haven't said yet: I'm a computer programmer by profession, so I spend all my time sitting in front of a computer, which gives me a chance to hang out on forums all day long while getting paid. Yay! I'm a big sci-fi/fantasy nerd, and the other place you can find me online is the Star Citizen forums at Roberts Space Industries | Follow the development of Star Citizen and Squadron 42. If you like space games, keep an eye on Star Citizen. It's still in development, but I think it's starting to come together nicely.

I like all sorts of guns, but mostly have semi-autos right now. Here's a "family photo" of everything I've got so far.

I look forward to learning more about the experience of gun owners in New York. Being in Texas I live in a state with very good gun laws and don't have to put up with any BS about it. I can't imagine what it must be like where you guys are.

I'll mostly just be lurking and learning, but feel free to ask me any questions. I know that "liberal" and "gun owner" seem contradictory in our society, but in my mind they go together quite well. Now if only I could convince Nancy Pelosi of that I'd be on to something.

You would really hate NY liberal politicians.
They believe ALL semi auto guns should be banned and that there is no place for gun owners in NYS.
They are proud to run on the idea that guns are killing machines and should be outlawed.
In fact.....I believe thats what ALL liberal politicians think.
Not necessarily all democrats....but ALL liberals.
Anyways, welcome to the site.
I can guarantee that if you lived in NYS you would either give up the liberal views, or not own guns.
On a side note....
You may be surprised about some of our views.
Alot of pro choice, pro sleep with who you want, pro legal immigrant.......around here.
We just dont want it legislated.
Oh, and not a racist in sight.

Nah. A I have a lot of downtime waiting for automated test suites to run. Some of them take up to a hour and while they are running there is little else to do. Besides which I also have to be available at all hours for emergencies. I did an 18 hour shift this past Monday, for instance. They get their blood and sweat from me.

I've already met some good people here. We may not agree on everything, but I've always said that liberals and conservatives have more in common than many people realize.

Welcome. Never looked at star citizen, but did have elite dangerous for a while. Never had a chance to play much though. I was using a motion simulator, and Oculus rift. It was a pretty awesome setup.

I will tell you that your honesty will be respected far above your friendliness.
But 90% of the time people on here are friendly , if they smell bullshit they will cut you no slack.
You can pretty much say anything you want on here so long as its legal .
I would say that the some of the gun people on here are actual experts in various fields , Lawyers cops, gun smiths , shooters, veterans , ect. I value their opinions on various subjects very much .
Another thing I will tell you that you may be unaware of is that the majority of upstate NY barring only 2 or 3 counties is red . The whole state voted red in the last election against Cuomo except 2-3 counties. NYC has the same number of people as the rest of the state , much of which consists generations of immigrants who know little about history of the country, the law and principles of our country. So when people say New Yorkers are liberals half of us aren't.

Perhaps of interesting note, (or not, but I'm going to say it anyway) is that thread (which I've taken no part in) continued to exist only because I was lazy at the moment. My initial instinct was to delete it immediately; seeing it as attempting to use our site as a 'home base' for trolling another forum. That's something we've very specifically disallowed in the past, so the precedent for deletion was certainly there. I recall being tired and thinking something akin to, "Meh..I'll deal with it later", yet by the time I'd again noticed it had blown up into some whole thing.

Even then I considered just saying "enough already" and locking it, but glancing through I found there seemed to be some interesting turns. I admit I didn't read through it much (again lazy), but I noticed a post here and there from some of our more.. outspoken.. members, some whom I like very much and some whom I consider egregiously arrogant fools (Edit:Though I mostly like them too) , which seemed to come to a bit of a .. simmer; having been perhaps brought for brief moment from their echo chambers. An important lesson to those willing to genuinely scrutinize it.

Anyway, welcome Eris.

Ha ! No. For the most part, if your username doesn't immediately remind me of having had to waste my time directly and repeatedly chastising you over the years, then no; generally speaking I would not consider you as such :D
And.. actually, that said, most of the people I have had to do that with I still like a great deal, or at the very least appreciate in some fashion.

Welcome @eris I do miss making my weekly trip to collectors firearms on Fondren. Prices mostly sucked but it was like a damn museum where you could fondle the exhibits.

Welcome, from a fellow Houstonian. I've been in NYC for 30 years, and my friends in Houston think I'm liberal. Liberal takes on a whole new meaning here, and you will become VERY CONSERVATIVE in NY terms in no time. I'm constantly telling the people of Texas to wake up. They say it "can't happen there" and "People in this state will never give up their guns." Some people in NY used to say that. Now we are no longer free. We need the free states to help us, and vote as a block. This state offers so much. It's beautiful, and it so very sad that I've grown to hate it so much. The politics here are driving people away, and you will internalize that soon if you haven't already. Glad you found this group though!

Hi eris, and welcome. You are actually closer to my collection then me. I have a relative in Texas.
I often debate leaving this shit hole behind, with a big one fingered salute to Cumo, but I have some ties here.
Just enough to keep me around ..... barely.
Then again I feel a need to stay united with my brothers of this state.
