High Hopes

Hi All, from a Mid Hudson Valley guy (but lived in western NY for 25 years),
High Hopes of getting 2A respected by NY State Governor, Legislature.
Time to correct distorted representations of firearm owners.
I am kind of a late, but not too late(!) entrant to firearm ownership, just didn't have anyone light my interest in the sport(s) earlier in my life...

If you don't mind me asking what made you decide to just now get into guns?

Welcome, from a Central NY member (near Syracuse) but went to college in the Hudson Valley and spent many a summer working at a camp in Esopus. Beautiful region.
In fact, most of the state is beautiful, its the politicians who force high taxes and unconstitutional laws that make NY undesirable to live in.

If you don't mind me asking what made you decide to just now get into guns?

I had taken the 4-hour training about ten years ago but never followed through with application. A guy I worked with was going for the training so I jumped on board.
I got serious end of 2020 to get underway with the application process and I felt I knew four guys well enough to back me with the references. Took a while getting all the references done and notarized, the guys really did a solid by coming out with me to a UPS store where they have a Notary.
The first four reasons I jumped in was 1) express Freedom, 2A rights, 2) I like mechanical stuff, was an engineer for quite a while out of college, 3) though shooting was just out-and-out fun, and 4) you know, louds stuff.
The fifth reason, self protection, came after the others because the responsibility of carrying a loaded weapon isn't a small thing.
The resistance I knew would be there would be from family members who have no interest in 2A, and who may even be anti-2A. They lead a different life than I do, I see the importance of protecting the Constitution. The first thing I did was buy a substantial gun safe as a signal of my intentions. Don't you know the first question they asked was, "How do you plan on keeping the guns safe?" They didn't expect that I had already installed the safe, I had that response locked and loaded for the anticipated question, ha.
By the way, my NY State permit came through a week ago and I bought 2 guns, a revolver and a semi-auto, that I need to get on my permanent permit card this upcoming week.
If someone had asked me to go shoot 30-40 years ago I would have jumped at the chance at the time - no earlier invitation is the only reason I am only jumping in now...

Yes, agreed, I grew up here in the Hudson Valley, went off to western NY (Buff and Roch) for 25 years. NY State is really beautiful, lots of water. Lake Ontario, its tributaries and bays. Finger Lakes. Streams, like Spring Creek outside of Roch where they have the fish hatchery. Loved to fish that little piece of water.
