I thought in NY the person with the gun had to run and hide unless it was rape or arson ..

Not that high of an official. He will go down for something just big enough to strip him of his gun rights and honestly with how stupid he was in this case that’s probably warranted. Of course that’s from what we know and how much do we really know.
To clarify I could even see him coming out with his gun, but safer to stay in the home so did he fear for his life? Also did the guy do anything threatening? Then he does the warning shot while the guy was running away maybe this is valid but then he shoots him from a very far distance while he’s fleeing scared to death of his life. I see no honor or fear of life in this situation. The guy will be spied and lose everything he owns for what?
