Some people live so close to the edge that being homeless is just a few hundred Dollars away. Have a co worker .He and his brother were both in Nam... Brother might have been a ranger ,,, Anyway did a lot of special op stuff. Has a bad case of PTSD . Never sleeps in the same place twice . Lives in the Adirondacks ... Being around people bothers him a lot. .. A lot of vets out there cannot cope . I have a sister that could have been homeless several times, If it were not for family. Right now she is a single person that has seen a $500/ month rise in her rent. She said all these places around her have a waiting list for rentals. This is in Florida. That is $2000/ month for a 1000 sq ft apartment. , She has a place to move to. A lot of folks don't. Many are drug addicts .. that are homeless . They just cannot get clean.
Anyone can get hit by hard times.

They can already do that as well . They are allowed to get up $35 cash drawn from the card to use for what ever they feel like using it for.

Your post is filled with facts. Some of these people, I do feel for. However, there is so much help and assistance for all that you mentioned. All of them.

I get the falling on bad times; I do. I have not always been as comfortable as I find myself today. Life is tough. Anyone get past the tough times if they really want to and put in an honest effort.

The homeless vet's, there is so much help for them. I have done a lot in time and effort to help my fellow vets. Some won't take the assistance offered.

Addicts? 100% their choice. All of them chose this life. I have very little positive thoughts for those that chose a life of drugs. This was s their bed to lay in.

Homeless can go anywhere they want. Sometimes, I like looking at them, reminds me how awesome I have it in life.

I have an issue first off them getting so much money from the tax payers. Second, now these dirty people are going to be allowed to use our money in restaurants? Yeah, I have a serious issue with that.

They need to either better themselves, take a bath or stay under the bridges.

Ok from that angle I agree with you. I was taking it as you meant a why should a homeless person be allowed there at all (maybe with money they got from collecting cans or something), to which my response was geared towards. In terms of using public sourced funds to pay for restaurants, yeah I agree with you there.

Sadly it doesn't take a lot in this country to become homeless. Most of them are not even bad people or lazy. Some are just too honest or idealistic to fill out application in a manner to qualify for assistance.

With the prices at restaurants anyone's SNAP benefits will be gone in a, well, snap. We went on a weekend getaway recently in Southbumfuk County (aka Ulster) and 2 dinners for 2 set me back almost 200. How much are on these f'n cards?

a couple weeks ago we went to the Hershey RV show, 2 (unbeliveably) plain Hamburg's and 1 water cost me $24

Lots of people who receive food stamps are homeless. Hard to cook under such conditions. If this doesn't change the amount they get, who cares.

I have a get home bag with cooking utensils and a stove that can run on 4-5 fuels also a solo stove one can burn small sticks. That said I follow a few you tube sites that interview homeless people. Not uncommon for one to have everything stolen while sleeping. Most of these people are drug addicts. (being interviewed ) They would have a whole different lifestyle than I would. Every waking moment for a drug addict is where they will get money for their fix.

They’re not embarrassed in the least. Why would they be? It’s a credit card now for christ sakes. Most people don’t even pay attention any more . Most Everyone uses their credit card for just about everything they purchase. When people had to pull out food stamp coupons you could see that a lot of them were embarrassed and even apologetic. Now , the fuckers stand in the grocery store line bragging about getting ALL the bennies , wearing more jewelry than I can afford to buy my wife in a year.

If I recall correctly, it's actually cheaper for the govt to have people buy things at the grocery store than it is for the govt. to run their own food distribution and refrigeration systems, warehouse it, have govt. employees work all of the jobs (transportation, storage, local distribution, administration, and so on), etc. Obviously allowing foods from a restaurant change that equation, but if the govt. is going to provide the service then it should be done economically and using grocery stores for this makes fiscal sense. Too bad they didn't just stick to that and skip this restaurant nonsense.

This automatically restricts people to certain foods AND takes care of preventing the govt. from needing to run a physical food distribution plan. No luxury items this way vis restricted UPCs. You want Steak or whatever.... well, better improve yourself so you can buy it because all you're getting is healthy things that are cheap and might not taste too great (there's that middle class push). Seems relatively straight forward and would limit cost and keep people from using the money to buy unnecessary items.

They never used to give prepared foods like this. My mother and father used to live in a small apartment in the 80s in Westchester. When she was pregnant with me they did receive some benefits, but it wasn't eating out. It was stuff like milk and cheese and fruit, and only for her since she was pregnant; it wasn't just cash. Those are reasonable, healthy things to give people.

I'm not saying we shouldn't help people with good food to eat, but this is above and beyond and a waste of money. We can't even expect them to prepare their own lunches now? What the fuck is wrong with society?

Being poor sucks, the more it sucks the more motivating it is to not be poor! When we remove the suckiness from being poor we also remove the motivating factor in some cases being 'poor' pays quite well.
