Great guy and he could take it. His wife’s a mess over it but it was literally killing him. They are both working their butts off and multiple jobs with three kids to pay the bills so he could leave. That’s how bad it’s gotten.

More than a dozen have left my department in the time that I have. They are tired of the bullshit

Definitely the right thing to do to pay your guy internally and take care of him. Too many managers don't understand that. Flat rate guys working straight time are losing big.

When I was with Cadillac I spent a lot of time chasing down the whacky weird electrical problems no one could figure out. We had a very good GM rep who I knew well and he always paid us the time we had into a job like that, he knew I wasn't milking clock reading the paper and making up BS.

It is not an open check book per se. There has to be time run on the repair order and punch times with a story that justifies the time asked. I firmly believe however that if management or the brand asks a tech to do certain work, and the tech does so, then they should be paid immediately as they have done as asked.

You know that’s not the way the law would look at it in your situation so we can’t give them a pass either. I’ll admit it’s splitting hairs but private industry would not be allowed to do this.

Servers and bartenders have hourly wages that are listed under minimum, but are able to make extra to cover. Theres plenty of exceptions. Commissioned employees often have no base rate. They get a weekly draw and then their commission check at endnof month.
