Hochul signs new gun laws

I am driving, haven't done any research on this yet but I heard her in her own words bragging about 3 new anti gun laws that are now in effect. One of which should concern everyone here.

She is extremely proud that she coerced credit card companies to collect and store data on consumer purchases of gun related items like ammo to report into a database for predictive analysis on whom the state police needs to flag pre emptively as "stocking up to do something bad".

Just throwing that out there to make people aware.

This is why Jude cash for all guns and unrelated items. Although it’s getting harder and harder to do in NYS. I wonder how it is tracked or if it is if I buy in line and use the funds out of my bank account and bypass any credit or debit card. Anyone know how that would work?

I said this when the CC thing was passed last year, this is technically an invasion of privacy. It would be expensive to fight, but just like having to give all your social media and email addresses was ruled invasion of privacy, so is this. I wonder what banks and credit card companies would do if we all went back to paying for everything with cash? CC companies would lose billions in fees and interest. Debit cards won't hurt banks much, though, unless people stopped keeping money in those banks. I mean, banks use our money to loan out, we don't get anything in return, but the banks make tons of money off the interest from the loans they use our money to lend.

I haven't bought any firearm related goods with a credit/debit card.......um.......ever.
Cash is king and everyone accepts it.

Every single credit card transaction you make stores data about the type of thing you're buying.

It's called MCC merchant category codes. I know this from work. Pretty much anything can be tracked, maybe not to the serial number detail but it can be tracked pretty far more than people realize. Here's a real life example of how a business used this data... An employee was using their company credit card to make a purchase from store xyz instead of the preferred vendor 123. They pulled the MCC history data from the card and tracked it to the granular level that the employee was buying condoms on the company card which are clearly not approved. Employee equals not working there anymore.



All of your spending data is saved into databases and tracked. Sufe it's usually just bullshit rewards programs and for marketing but it can definitely be used for sinister government big brother over reach and social credit nonsense. Which is conspiracy theory stuff. Except, out governor literally just said that's what she's making the credit card companies do.

So if you're buying "standard" capacity magazines, ammo, survival gear, all that is now fair game for empress hochul. Why this is a ridiculous pretense for invading our privacy is the guys doing public shootings are probably just buying a couple boxes of ammo. They aren't the guys buying thousands of rounds. So their entire premise is skewed and doesn't make sense.

Was the social media thing for your permit struck down? Afaik it's still on the application in many counties.

IDK, like repealing the sanctuary state policy and going after the hordes of illegal invaders in New York.

Maybe address the problems with the State Prison system. The early release of prisoners certainly wasn't the correct answer.

Infringe yes. But what does this prove? Ammo is already tracked in this god forsaken state as are semi auto rifles and pistols. Do they not already have a database to track "suspicious" transactions?
As far as the other 2 laws. Big deal. Mandate dealers hang yet another sign in their shop and make something that is already federally and state illegal, illegal.

Will the State begin to notify CC companies to track pens? How about Google data tracking movements when to/fro guns shops or the close proximity thereof?

NY is fucking insane! And I'm sorry, it's great to be getting out of the retched State! Still haven't sold our home but pretty much haven't spent much time at all over the last year there. And it's fucking refreshing!

To celebrate, I think I'm going to head down to the LGA and finally get my can (silencer) ordered. And oh, these days it should take only about a week or two to get ATF approval/tax stamp. Maybe another Class III item or two as well...

Just because, like cars & dogs licking their balls... Because I can!

FUCK NY, in the most deepest and sincere manner possible. It's outrageous what they do to their constituents, disgusting and revolting. Unfortunately, you don't get to experience how bad it is until you see it from outside the pickle barrel.

Google already records your firearm data. They wrote an algorithm a few years back that records the serial number from pictures we post of our guns. It also does the same for video. When I first heard about it, I thought it was BS. But I did a little searching and sure enough, Google and all of its child/sister/partner companies, and Facebook index the images. It's supposed to be so they can locate guns used in crimes. In reality, it's just a huge worldwide registry using images and video.
Your purchases are already tracked on everything from underwear to firearm stuff anyway, even using cash.
Anyone who thinks buying something in a gun shop with cash that you need to show an ID for is in denial if you think that store doesn't have a digital fingerprint on you. I hate it, but that's what high-tech does. I stated this before, there's a locally private owned chain of gun stores in the Albany area that have and keep a database on all customers. They record every purchase into the file they make on you, doesn't matter if you pay with cash, card, or goats.

Thanks for that. I’m not overly surprised by that and the law confirms what you state here.
My question is what is tracked or what could be tracked if say I use PayPal or Venmo to buy something online using cash in my savings account. I have a smallish separately managed by me savings account linked to PayPal and I buy all sorts of things out of that. This is my slush fund side money that I buy my things out of. I’m wondering if that is or can be tracked in the same way. This is a savings account and doesn’t not go through a debit or credit card.

Legislation S.744/A.436 will ensure there are penalties for using “pistol converters,” which are rapid-fire modification devices that can be easily attached to semi-automatic pistols to make them even deadlier by allowing rapid fire with one pull of the trigger.

So it was totally legal to convert a handgun to a machine gun in NY right up until this was signed? Who would have thought.

Legislation S.745/A.439 will strengthen the law that the Governor signed last year that requires credit and debit card issuers to use the merchant category code (MCC) for firearms and ammunition retailers by ensuring that it captures retailers whose bulk sales come from firearms, ammunition and firearms accessories.

The first thing that comes to mind when I read an article about a 17 year old shooting up a birthday party is, 'If that 17 year old didn't have a credit card, he would have never been able to shoot those people.'
