Hodgon 700x for 9mm....38/.357 mag

I am wondering if any of you use 700x to reload pistol. I am looking to use it for 9mm...38/.357 mag because it is on sale. I usually use bullseye and feel slightly married to it lol. For some reason I seem to prefer Alliant powders. I use the Lee auto disk on my turret press to load if that makes any difference.

This is mostly for just plinking rounds. I use MP300 for true magnum rounds and am looking to pick up a lb of pistol power or unique for other work.

Check the Hogdon website for loads. I know a lot of guys that use it for 38 and 45. I'm not sure about 9's.

I used 700x for 380 auto, 9mm, 38 Super, 45 ACP, 38 special, and 357 Magnum in the early 90s.

Are you going to be using lead, plated lead or jacked bullets?

Dsdmmat- How did you like it and why did you stop using it?

It will mostly be lead or maybe polymer coated lead bullets, I have used plated in the past though. I get what ever I can find the cheapest. I do load some jacketed but 90% will most likely be non-jacketed.

I loved 700X I used it and 800x exclusively for a few years then moved to Germany where I had to use Rotweil powders. When I got back to the states in 2001 I was able to get unique and 2400 but not 700x for a few years. I do have a couple of pounds of 700x and 800x in the box but I haven't had to break into it yet.

700x and 800x are very versatile powders. I've had an 8 pound jug of 800x for years. It's nice and bulky and shoots relatively clean. The only thing is it doesn't meter well. Oddly enough even with the variances the velocities are pretty consistent.

Ya any data would be appreciated. I do have Lymans 49th but the only data it has for .357 mag is a 90gr lead bullet which is not useful to me. There is some data for 700x for .38 special but not for 158gr bullets. It has 95-147 gr loads for 9mm. According to this manual and a few of the loads I just looked at, it has more pressure and less velocity compared to bullseye.

Nah. Flake powders like that aren't gonna leak. It just doesn't flow well. But like I said this powder is quite consistent even with the variations.

It does NOT meter well. I use it exclusively for 9mm, 45acp, 45lc. 4.0 for 9,4.4 for 45acp, 4.7 45lc. I weigh every charge. The new Lee autodrum is much better than the autodisk.

I'll have to look into the auto drum eventuslly. But I really don't want a powder I have to hand measure everytime to verify.

Well you are an exception to the rule. For most forever is longer than a few thousand rounds. lol
In my competition days I would go through a pound every couple of weeks. I am lucky to go through a pound a year now.

True, I have been slacking off on the pistol shooting/reloading and have been concentrating on the rifle shooting. I go through a few pounds a month. I finished off 6 pounds of IMR4227 in February. Now working on IMR 3031,4895 and 4831.

I should probably shoot my pistols more, just need to stop bringing rifles to the range to do that. LMAO.

I use 9.0Gr Power Pistol under a 125Gr Xtreme like a boss.

Seriously, Power pistol is versatile.

There are so many good powders and load data available that it really doesn't matter what you buy. Everyone has their preference but after a few test loads you can make just about anything work for you. Right now I shoot a lot of pistol so when I buy I look for price first. Availability is good now not like a year or two ago so I can usually get what I want.
