so while watching a gun youtube channel (tgcnews. Which the host/owner admitted he isnt involved with, but also his fiance was the co-founder or something along those lines.. anyways)

Its called Hold My Guns and sounds like an organization that is partnering with FFLs to provide storage of firearms for individuals (many shops will do this for a fee, but this organization is supplementing the cost).

Why may benefit from an organization like this, maybe someone going through a bad time (divorce, lost job) and may not be doing good mentally and want to get their guns out of their home temporarily until they can get help and feel better.

Or maybe going through a divorce and afraid of getting "red flagged" and afraid they may have their guns confiscated.

Or someone going on a deployment and don't have any place to store their guns long term.

But over all it seems like a pretty solid idea and a decent organization that I think should get some publicity for lack of better terms

I still haven't read enough into the program or talked to any FFL who do storage for a fee.

I would think that you wouldn't need to fo a 4473 to get them back, just like you can leave a gun with a dealer for their gunsmith and then when its done you just pick it back up

Local FFLs hold the guns just like many already do for a cost, this organization just helps supplement that cost for people who may not be able to afford to pay an FFL to hold their guns

I imagine there would have to be permanent record keeping for this to be legal. There in lies the problem, rules and laws change so the rules in place when you put the guns in storage May be different when you go to pick them up. I prefer to not store my stuff at a government licensed and regulated facility.

While I don't disagree with you on this, I think its a better option for someone who may be about to get red flagged... have a ffl/dealer hold the guns or the police?

Or someone who may feel suicidal and trying to get help and storing at a dealer or ffl may be only option for someone to be able to keep their guns

I think it’s warranted in certain circumstances. I thought about moving some of my guns. Some one in my family was going through a tough time and made a comment if things get bad all we need is 4 bullets. I said stop that shit and it wasn’t really meant and nothing similar has been mentioned. All guns are in large safe at my home and this person doesn’t know the combination. My small pistol safe the combination was changed as they may know this one.

May not be a bad thing. I have friends that, if needed, will hold all of my guns for me. One friend has two extra, and for the most part, empty gun safes just for this. He holds guns for people when they go on vacation so the guns do not have to stay at an empty house.

Not really liking the idea of leaving guns with a stranger, I would much rather give them to a friend to hold.

To be fair unfortunately can't really do the help a friend out and take possession unless you do a 4473 to take them and then a 4473 to give them back.... technically

This. I'm actually currently holding guns for someone who ran into some problems.

Along similar lines, it's occasionally worthwhile to have a conversation with your like-minded friends to make sure they have a plan for their guns in case something unfortunate happens to them. It could be as simple as "I don't want to know what your plan is. I just want you to have a plan." If your spouse isn't completely aware of the extent of your collection, it can be VERY overwhelming to deal with the legal crap in New York. And it crushes me like nothing else to see a nice collection get destroyed for lack of a plan.

Oh trust im not saying don't (also not saying do) but only way to transfer possession of guns thanks to the safe act is through a dealer and a background check. Unless they are immediate family

But doesn't that imply a transfer of ownership? If you are just letting your friend store his stuff at your house for a while, the guns are still his, not yours, so a transfer isn't necessary? As pointed out above, if a court orders your friend's guns to be turned in, it likely won't matter that they were transferred to you - they will be taken anyway.

The courts may also rule that was an illegal transfer if they really wanted to fuck the person and maybe someone else (over zealous DA looking to pad their safe act / gun convictions)

And again it may not be because of a court order, someone may just not feel they should have the guns around them and are taking personal responsibility to make sure they don't harm themselves (with those guns, they could off themselves some other way)

But still accessible. It would render the intent of the red flag useless and therefore would not be allowed to fly. I guess they could always put a block on your NICS so you wouldn't be able to get them back anyway. Either way - they're gone.

You can always say that you sold them out of state. No way to prove otherwise.

So now we're going down the road of additional charges for not complying or for producing false paperwork. I believe that would be a felony false instrument. Either way I'm sure a warrant would be signed to check up on your story and have a look around.

To get rid of the pistols, give them to a friend with a badge.
