Once you do some physical repetition, it’s pretty hard to mess up the cycling of a pump-action.
Semi-auto’s work well, at least certain ones do. But with the wide range in 12 gauge loads, there is still a decent chance of a feeding or ejection issue. I really don’t see pump actions as having the same chance of that sort of failure, at least not in my experiences. Feed them whatever ammo, clean them and they work.
The key for pump actions is to mitigate the recoil. Repeated shots of normal hunting and sd loads can really beat up on your shoulder. Find a stock with an optimal LOP and put a limbsaver recoil pad on (magpul sga stock is the best option for this).
