I have a pop up blind that’s great, but I’m tired of having to go out in a heavy snowstorm to brush the snow off of it before it collapses. So I bought some pallets for $2 a piece and started building a permanent one. Everything I’ve used so far I already had so I’m $16 into it at this point. The opening is where the door will go. Gotta add half pallets up top for more height then cut out some of the slats for windows. I plan on covering it with camo tarps and putting see through camo fabric over the windows. I’ll post more pics as the progress continues.

It's a little pricier that harbor freight camo tarps, but it's probably a lot more durable and generally better.

Can always add a small camo tarp under it for rain.

That's a really nice little project. Some carpet scraps on the floor will deaden your footsteps. A few branches on the outside will break up the horizontal lines.

Carpet. I like that. I’ve actually got an old outdoor carpet just sitting in the garage.

Finally got a chance to work on it a bit more. Still gotta attach the door and roof then cut out some slats for the windows.

Looking good, the older I get the less I want to sit on a bucket out in the weather. I saw one similar to that, what they did was just put one old apple crate on top of another so it was about 4'x4' and about 6' high. No idea what they did for waterproofing the roof.

Looking good, the older I get the less I want to sit on a bucket out in the weather. I saw one similar to that, what they did was just put one old apple crate on top of another so it was about 4'x4' and about 6' high. No idea what they did for waterproofing the roof.

Yeah the roof might be tricky. Probably going to have to buy a cooler sheets of plywood and put some pella window tape over the seam then a tarp on top

I’m $22 in so far. It’s not super straight forward since you have to figure out how to cut and attach everything but ones kinda like this sell for about a grand at the local gun store. Obviously those are nicer but I’l this will probably cost me less than $100 by the time I’m done

Yea, my local feed store sells ones somewhat like these, for around that, they turn a heck of a profit from them as they pick them up from the Amish for around $300, and they sell like hot cakes too.
My only thought for this would be if I want it permanent or not as I will be moving in about a year and half. How heavy do you think yours will be after being finished?

I’d imagine less than 200 pounds or so. I have an old truck bed liner that I use for pulling logs and brush around on the property. Would be nothing to tilt this into it and drag it wherever you want.

Ohhh, that is a smart idea an easy way to move it for sure.

Ha! Never even crossed my mind. Could be an option if I can’t find something cheap for the roof

My father in law had a recliner (in Tx) in his ground blind. One year he sat down and felt something move under him, pulled out a rattlesnake bailed out over the side, then realized his rifle was in the blind with the snake. Radioed my bil to come and shoot it.
Didn't find it got his rifle and they burned the chair and half the blind; no snake.

I know I know. Doesn’t mean it’s gotta be ghetto tho right? lol. I’ve even put a couple shelves in to put my coffee, food and shells on. The camo netting is gonna be the most expensive part. I had to buy a 2x4 for one of the corners and the hinges are 8.99 for six of them. I already had the chrome one. The handles for the inside of the windows came off of our old kitchen cabinets. Got the roof panels on Facebook marketplace for $10. So far I’ve got less than $50 into it and a couple hours time.

Are you even doing it on the cheap if you spend money for line ?

Although, I *did* buy some once I moved out here and no longer had an endless supply of stuff cut off bales.

It is really handy to just have a box of 20k ft on the shelf in the garage. You suddenly stop worrying about wasting stuff for temp use when you have a massive surplus. That makes a lot of things easier.

Exactly. My wife’s always asking why I have so many nails, nuts, screws and washers and stuff. The hinges came with screws that I swear were made of macaroni. The heads snapped off of almost every one I tried. Had to dig into the wood screw bin. I was able to find 70 screws that were perfect for the job. Hinges are on. Got the camo on today but I forgot my phone in the house. I’ll post the finished product tomorrow.

Inside. Slow morning. Spooked two deer ten minutes apart while walking out to the blind this morning. Scared the crap out of me since they were so close. Overcast so no moonlight and couldn’t see anything
