Homemade pistol - amendment how to?

Anyone here have advice on what to submit for an increased chance of approval? Preferably from first hand experience. Accepting ideas from anywhere in NYS, regardless of locale.

While I don't have personal experience here 80% or less complete is not a firearm. In NYS you would have to add it to your permit prior to doing anymore work or completing lower otherwise you'd be in possession of an unlicensed handgun. Pretty straightforward.

I think the easiest way would be to complete it in PA, go to a PA gunshop, and ship it to your local NY FFL.

You will need to talk to your permit office to see how they want to handle it. At a minimum you will need to stamp a SN and manufacturer on it before you finish the receiver. They will also want the barrel length and caliber at the permit office to put it on your license.

That's weird. I'm assuming it's something your county does based on your post, but I've never seen a NY permit or related paperwork that mentions barrel length at all. I've only seen permits from a few counties though.
Here in Ulster they want Make, Model, Caliber, Serial and Type (Auto,Revolver,Single).

the barrel length does not go on the license but it is something Jefferson country requires to be on the receipt that you turn in for the amendment. They want make, model, SN, Caliber, type, and barrel length.

Interesting. Never seen it but cant say I'm surprised or anything. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if some of the tougher counties wanted to mark down if you had clean fingernails when turning in the receipt.

The p12 wants barrel length.

How they handle the p12 is gonna be the interesting part.

The p12 is the reporting paper to the state police. It is their way to double check the info.

I called the state police, they said its done all the time. Fill out your pistol permit amendment as normal. In the manufacturers spot place home made. in acquired from put home made, decide on a caliber your going to make it. hand in. Bring the state police # with you incase the clerk needs to talk to them,

I suggest calling the state police first to acquire the correct info and then show up at the clerks

As stated above create a serial # and stamp into your frame, (state police say stamp only ) not engraved I used my initials and the first for of my birthdate and a 1 after it as I think I am going to make another one right away, the cheap old stamp set from harbor freight is huge when you try and fit it on a frame. I am looking for a smaller set

Good Luck I guess you could not pass up the midway deal of only 49 for a polomer80 lower

Might be that a hand engraver has trouble both with the 0.003" depth as per ATF, and also the illegibility of scrawling by hand. I imagine laser or CNC engraved is acceptable given a minimum of three thous depth (as is the case with ATF).

Are there any other specific rules to follow for the serial number - length of the number, forbidden characters, placement location, etc? I see the depth requirement above. Can you keep it real subtle and just go with the number 1?

As of this year you must have a letter and number in the serial number. It cannot have L or O. It can not statt with 0000

When I spoke to them,and ask for a name or exstention I was told "anybody here can help them"

I see noted in the above post it talks allot about "Import" none of that information was told to me.I was told for home made you just have to Stamp it in. and to use something unique

EDIT ,SORRY I INCORRECTLY READ IT AS 5/16 th Not 5/32 nds That may work , I am looking for a set to put into a "gang" to align and just use one stroke

That looks like my set and when you line up six or more letters you more then an inch and a half long. I think we need some thing more inline with 3/16th of an inch letter size
