Many States do have this. Some of the ones that do not have this specific annotation in their laws turns out to be better than the Castle Doctrine. NY has a Castle Doctrine, just so all are aware of this.

In 2005, Florida governor Jeb Bush signed into law a bill called “stand your ground”. This law was one of the first of its kind in the United States, and after it was introduced in Florida, more than 20 other states followed suit with similar legislation. The new Florida law made it so that anyone, in any place they are legally allowed to be, can use deadly force if they believe there is a serious threat to their life. This legislation was an expansion of the “castle doctrine”, not only allowing people in their homes or on their property to use deadly force, but anyone who feels threatened outside of their home as well.

There is what the law says, and then there is the reality of how it is enforced.

In NY that varies drastically from county to county, despite the law being the same in all of them (at least on paper).

One county you might be home for dinner. Another you spend 2 years in jail and your life savings to be acquitted.

If you spend 2 years behind bars like this guy did, how much does it matter if it was an acquittal or a conviction.

I think I lot of folks are missing an important part of the castle doctrine, yes, you can defend yourself outside your home, but, If I'm not mistaken one part of this law says, the victims family or estate can not sue you for wrongful death. Which is a critical part of the law, as far as I'm concerned
