Hornady Match 75gr HPBT bullets

Picked a box of these to try out on my 1:7 twist AR build. Looks like these are not too long that they will still feed from a magazine instead of single loading. Found a workable load using TAC powder as well. Anyone had any experience with these? These are not the A-MAX bullets which are too long for a magazine.

I loaded some up this past weekend to try out in my 1-6 twist AR. I loaded them longer than magazine length though. I have the hornady book if you are looking for other powders that they recommend.

To date I have only shot the factory loaded hornady 75 grainers they definately shoot nice out of my 1-8 twist rifles.

These are all I shoot out of my 1:7 16" AR. I load them to 2.255" for mag length. Ive only tested Varget and IMR 4064 loads. Varget was more accurate with less flash. I found greatest accuracy at 23.2 gr of Varget. Others have had good luck with CFE 223, TAC and RE-15 powders. Hornady also recently came out with a 73 grain ELD Match bullet. This bullet is designed to replace the Amax line and can be loaded to AR15 mag length with a polymer tip. Hope to test these soon.

my first reloads were those bullets, a federal 205 primer, lake city brass, 22.8 grains of varget. i have shot them out of a 14.7 (pinned to 16") barrel with a 5.56nato chamber 1:7" twist and a 20" 1:8" 5.56 SAM-R barrel. they do very vell out of both, easy to print 4 leaf clovers all day with 5 shots at 100 yards.

So I loaded some up today. Went with starting load of 21.7gr TAC and a few at 22.0gr in anticipation of my AR upgrades coming this week. COL of 2.26. CCI 400 primers and Hornady once fired brass.

Thinking a slight crimp since it will be magazine fed semi and not a bolt action to keep seating depth intact. Lower load so not worried about pressures. Any thoughts?

i skip the crimp and i have never had issues shooting from a bench. also i wouldn't bother seating to the cannelure on the hornady 75grain bthp for a couple reasons: the cannelure is pretty high on them, the cannelure is not very defined so i don't think it grips much, and i don't crimp so there is no need for me.

do yourself a favor and pick up a swage gage and neck tension gage from this guy, they take the guess work out of swaging the crimped primer pockets and they allow you to check and make sure your sizing die is sizing the case mouth correctly:

Ditto, I skip the crimp on all 3 calibers of my AR rounds. Never a problem.

my 1:7 BCM ELW 14.5'' barrel loves these over 21.5gr TAC

I always crimp, never an issue but enjoy the piece of mind since i usually leave these loose in an ammo can then grab handfuls into ziplock bags for the range
