Household Consent of my in-laws?

EDIT: I’m in Rockland County

Just finished Application Form and references stuff but I’m confused on the “Notarized Consenet of Household Members”.

I live in the bottom half of my in-laws house; no shared spaces, pay rent, separate entrances, prepare my own meals etc. but there is a door that leads between our two places. I'm confused on wether they would be considered "Household Members" as our addresses are similar in this regard, we live in the same house, but I'm not sure that makes them "Household" in this sense. Besides my wife, do I also need to gain consent from them as well?

And if you live separately, can't see why you need anyone's consent! Do they give their consent to let you vote too?

Anyways... Counties are counties and they all have their own rules. This one is unfamiliar to me. Maybe someone else will chime in. Good luck!

Definitely need to know what county for this one. I'm in the exact position you are. Basement of my girlfriend's house with her, door in-between but separate entrances. Only difference is we go up to do laundry in there. My io for Suffolk treated them all as living in the same house for the purpose of the application. However Suffolk doesnt require letters of consent.

You need notorized approval of them all as well?

This is a grievous stretch of I've ever seen one... If me, I would leave it blank and when questioned indicate that I live alone! Period! No embellishment required... Fact that upstairs or next door neighbors may be known to you, ie, family, doesn't mean Jack!

Disclaimer: I'm not an attorney!

So, here's the real question...

When filling out this application to exercise your rights, shown here to be dispensed by the county as they seem fit, how far are you prepared to go? I mean if you are denied... What are you plans? Are you just going to accept it? Or are you prepared to fight for your rights? Do you understand the ramifications if denied...

I only ask because that is more relevant than the station on the app. Do you even know what to do, if denied?

These are the questions you should be asking yourself right now...

SO I also live in Rockland county, Land of over over burdensum laws and regulations and too much taxes, I understand living in a family members home as I don't see how my children will ever be able to afford to live in Rockland. That being said . In the majority of Rockland there are regulations on a mother daughter apartment in a home. If you live as a family no locked door between the areas, one can travel from one area to the next with no keys its legal

But if there is a locked door that requires a key, or the need to leave the home to re enter the other area that is not legal, Care full what you claim . you could jam up your in-laws Safest route would be to treat it as mother daughter living as a family and just have the in laws sign off on it. Do I agree with he regulation NO! but until every one is on there front stoop ready to do something about it "I go a long to get along"

I'm going to say no on the in-law consent based on your description...you said you live in the basement "apartment". There is a separate entrance/ locked door between you and the in-laws.
If you lived in a condo or apartment building, would you get consent from everyone living in the building/complex.
imo, "Household member" implies anyone living with you in your apartment/ "your house".
I would treat it as you're a tenant renting a basement apartment from Mr. X. and not mention in-laws. just my $0.02

Sleeping in somebody's basement means you're in their house.

Except IMO, and I suspect legally (I don't know for certain), that the OP is not considered in the same household anymore than an apartment dweller needs to get notarized support from everybody under the same roof.

If OP is functioning as a separate entity and, crucially, paying rent, I am guessing that he is in a separate household, legally.

Sorry, not actually a basement more a split ranch like op is describing. Technically a mother daughter. But yeah, I meet all the criteria you said to be considered my own entity but they still wanted the people living upstairs on my app because of the door.

When they run your background they will see you've been living for 'x' number of years as a minor at the address. They'll also see your current domicile as the same address you've lived at as a minor.

Telling them you are 'just renting an apartment' isn't going to fly. As a matter of fact it'll appear you're trying to hide something. No different than not reporting an arrest on your application because you were told your file was sealed a decade ago. You'll be giving them (in their mind, not mine) just cause for outright denial.

If your family is supportive of your 2A endeavor just get them to give consent (pains me to type that). Conversely, hiding or twisting the information and garnering a denial will follow you. Any future application asking if you've ever been denied a handgun license will obviously require you to respond affirmative. Not good.
