How do people really react???

So, I got home from work tonight. Turned on the news and began scrolling through the forum.

I stopped on Fox news and saw another earthquake just hit California.

As I am watching the news footage, they kept bringing up different video clips of people getting out of buildings and getting to a safer area. Seems like the right thing to do...

What I was not really expecting, well maybe not too much, was the amount of absolutely selfish behavior.

People were pushing and shoving like I have not seen in quite sometime. I saw tow different, very old people getting knocked down and stepped on. I saw a baby stroller get knocked over as well; likely, the mother was holding the baby.

This was a quite small event compared to what could happen. If the masses are panicking like this with this event, what can we expect with a larger situation?

Panic, fear, selfishness, entitlement and bad manners is exactly what will cause people to behave like that and revert to animalistic behavior.

Gone are the days of people behaving in an orderly respectful fashion in a crisis.

I dunno. I suppose it was in part relief from knowing it wasnt another terrorist attack and in part because most everyone knew it was temporary but I for one was pleasantly shocked at how orderly and indeed actually quite pleasant everyone in Manhattan was during the August 2003 blackout. It was basically a party atmosphere for the most part.

That said I know there were definitely (ahem) "issues" in the other boroughs. Though i chalk that up to bad guys being bad guys and having simply had an additional advantage those couple of days for doing bad guy stuff.
