"Officers then took Young into custody, having already been taken into custody six times since February 6, according to police."


Arrested and taken into custody every other day for the past 12 days!!!!!! WTF? You boys got BIG problems in NY......

At what point do you say this isnt working?

I like Trumps idea best, if your a multiple offender, you can spend 25 years in prision or voluntarily renounce your citizenship and have an all expense paid trip out of the country forever.

How about exponentially increasing sentences.

Your sentence for a crime is multiplied by the number of times you have been previously convicted of felonies.

This would have to be coupled with an end to prosecutorial discretion. You charge the exact crime they committed or nothing at all. You don't get to pretend that car theft was shoplifting because you're afraid you're throwing off some racial quota.

Yup! Is there no longer a "grand theft auto" charge? All I see lately in the NY news is scumbags being charged with "unauthorized use of a motor vehicle".

Prison should be a miserable deterrent to crime. Currently it is not. For a 2nd time offender of non violent crime or 1st time offender of violent crime prison should be the following: Food should be beans, bread and water. Nothing more. Bed should be metal bunks and no mattresses. No electronic devices of any kind. Temperature should be kept at 55 degrees in winter and 80 degrees in summer. Manual labor should be the only activity available. No workout or sports equipment.

prison should be so miserable that a criminal should wish never to return ever again.

I think most people here would post a picture of a baseball bat or a gun or something like that would be the end of it.

I don't know all the possible reasons this shit happens. Maybe some people are bad. Maybe the system sucks largely in part to failed policies. Maybe just some dumb luck in life. Probably a combo of all three.

When times are good I'd imagine people are less apt to pursue these lifestyles. Maybe we should start with failed policies.

Yes we can. It is very difficult to be a repeat offender if your ass is in jail. Common sense to most, a difficult concept for liberals and politicians to accept.

Now if we were to start asking the question "what do the vast majority of the repeat offenders have in common" perhaps we could start doing something about it. But that is a question politicians will never want the answer to.

Good answer, but unfortunately, for those of us living in (red) Upstate New York that's not effective.

It would be, but were outnumbered by the downstate (NYC) leftists who think being soft on crime is the way to go.

Better them than me, I live in the sticks where crime is hardly an issue. It's not like I have to be around feral humans and ride the subway, I'm just saying.

I do wish it were different though, but I just don't see the window-licking city people changing their ways. They will vote Democrat even if it means being burned alive on a subway train.
I don't get it, I don't get their thought process.

But I'm just about as far away as one can be from NYC and still be within New York State.
So what do I know about it?

The funny think about this..... This used to happen all of the time. It was in-facility disciple. Too many soft hearted people got involved and stopped this from continuing.

Believe it or not, there was a thread here not too long ago, kind of on this topic. I was surprised at how many members are and were against these jail house rules.

Absolutely, but had the offenders been arrested (instead of un-alived), they would have gone to jail and stayed in jail until someone paid a hefty bail or they went to trial. They definitely would not have been given an appearance ticket and released within hours, only to be arrested and released again...5 more times....over the next 11 days.

Forbid use of electronic devices to tally the vote. No more dominion machines!
Stop harassing the law-abiding citizens, especially if they just got done protecting themselves from the results of Albany's fukups.

There are easy solutions, but the average liberal can't stomach them. They want safety, but their political policies promote anarchy. Sadly in NY we are outnumbered by those who want feel good legislation. They are either too stupid, too shortsighted or too brainwashed to see the long term ill effects of their actions. They think throwing money at the problems will work. That lunacy has only emboldened criminal behavior. It's been that way for decades. So yeah, NYS is boned.

All 50 states have leftist cities with progressive prosecutors.
As for the topic of this thread, this would NOT happen where I live in NY.
A few years ago in Jamestown NY, the closest city to us(20 miles), a known weed dealer shot 2 guys who broke into his house to steal money and drugs. One bad guy died, the other lived. No charges brought against the defender.....a known drug dealer.
Every state has both sides represented, NY just has MORE progressive DAs.
Fun fact, Jamestown NY recently got rid of 24 years of democrat leadership and elected a Republican.
