Overall I found the movie pretty good.
they could have really done some silly things with it.

A couple of things were "wrong".
- where is all the traffic? They saw what..5 cars once they left Chicago.
The roads were totally empty and clear.
-Where did all the people go? Most every place was abandoned.
- If the power was out, how did they buy gas at the trucks stop where the skank was.
Do they normally have generators?
-Who else thought that the crazy guy stripped the last round from the Sig before returning it?
- Why were the tires slashed on the cars at the water slide place?
- I would expect a lot more people to be armed.
- Who the hell only has or brings one gun ( Forest Whittakers character) on this type of mission?

The military road block closed RT 90w for all traffic. Made things awfully convenient for their trip west.

-Where did all the people go? Most every place was abandoned.
I thought the same thing. Poetic license for the screen writer?

- If the power was out, how did they buy gas at the trucks stop where the skank was.
Do they normally have generators?
I know NY requires gas stations to have generators ever since Super Storm Sandy.

-Who else thought that the crazy guy stripped the last round from the Sig before returning it?
Who else thought Will was a moron for handing his gun to the lunatic in the first place? That request was a uummm NO moment.

- Why were the tires slashed on the cars at the water slide place?
Maybe the roaming vagabonds were stealing air? lol, j/k

- I would expect a lot more people to be armed.
I thought it was about right. Most were armed.

- Who the hell only has or brings one gun ( Forest Whittakers character) on this type of mission?
Tom lived in Chicago. City boy probably brought his entire arsenal.

I thought the movie could have been a lot better. Kinda made me feel like an idiot having to 'accept' the absurdness of the emptiness they encountered.

City boy Tom was an ex bad ass Marine.
Granted he was an officer, though.

At least they wrote him in a Sig and not a Hi-Point as a side arm.

The writers did put a SpyderCo type knife and a flashlight in his GHB.
That and water jugs were filled a couple times....from working faucets (?).

- Where did the two 5 gal gas cans come from?
Not what the average high rise, Caddilac driving city boy has in his trunk.
They would have sold out quickly at the truck stop.

- Would an impact severe enough to break ribs not deploy the airbag?

Tom's wife was way too hot for droopy eye dude.

It was BS that's what. What they were running from looked to be a pyroclastic flow which in reality they would not be able to out run.

The ending was more of a cliff hanger than anything. No good if there is no sequel or if it's not a show.

Nothing was really explained. What happened? It was if there were elements from various end of the world scenarios. You had volcanic activity, they mentioned a tsunami hit Seattle but when he got there it was if a volcano or nuclear bomb was what destroyed it (all the ash and burning)

Why would the military block off access west? Why was there a train loaded with tanks and other combat vehicles headed west only to somehow get derailed as if it were attacked?
What the heck was with the thunderstorms?

The movie leaves more questions than answers.

Worth watching for entertainment value. Don't try to assemble the parts to come up with anything useful in 'our world' though.

Military uses no gasoline, they use JP in everything. That Caddy wont run long on that lol. As far as that goes, I would have immediately ditched the Caddy for an operational HMMWV with many cans of fuel. The cans city boy grabbed ,they were water cans by the way.

27yr Marine vet and only a Sig, no AR, no shotgun, none the less countless filled mags he should have had AFAIC.
At the end, that cloud of stuff coming up on them almost looks like it come from a volcano. If I remember correctly from NatGeo channel, that stuff can move a few hundred MPH. Damn fast Jeep

Oh well, as long as you ignore the weird inconsistencies it's entertaining.

I love the suspense of having the world ending/changing event(s) shrouded in mystery and slowly revealed, but they need to be revealed at some point. I guess the way it ended was through volcanic activity. Some eruption off shore kicked it all off and maybe ending with the super volcano in Yellowstone going off...

The road was AWESOME!

As for this movie, maybe we all watched a different movie...

Besides the errors and Hollywierd mistakes, I thought it was pretty good.

Few things wrong, but overall, I enjoyed it.

I've said a number of times it was entertaining. I wouldn't give it a 5/5 though. I give it a 3.5/5

Found it entertaining and worth the watch. Sure there are a few things that make you go hmmm but mostly believable. I would definitely have spent some time searching the wrecked train for food, ammo, weapons, fuel etc. Only one mag for the Sig was a stretch but they did live in Chicago so all those weapons of war with the thing that goes up were probably not on hand.

I really liked how being a ex-marine got them through a military road block. Yeah right!
And a city boy lawyer suddenly knows how to do some major defensive driving on that bridge.
All in all a decent movie. Just don’t read into it to much.
Oh and the ending sucked!

I thought the movie could have been better but I’d be shocked if they don’t turn it into a series with a bunch of end of days scenarios.

I definitely enjoyed this thread and reading the areas people found weird or unrealistic.

One Part i thought was goofy was the guy who helped his wife mentioning about war games and that the whole thing was a simulation/orchestrated. I was thinking they were going to build on that idea or there was going to be a crazy plot change.

the suspension of disbelief makes stuff like this more fun to watch. Are there inconsistencies? yes but overall its a fun movie.

Seems to me like some sort of Geo-storm happened. Like a mega volcano that disrupted magnetic and electrical frequencies and caused a "wave" to hit. If i recall they never said its was an ocean wave, what if it was just a shock wave. Hence them seeing the northern lights go wild and the crazy lightning storm.

The lack of traffic once the characters pass through the checkpoints gives the watcher the feeling of isolation and the suspense of the unknown. I cant believe they came across a wrecked military supply train and only left with what? 2 cans of gas?!!!? If it were me id be rolling in one of those Humvees with a solid collection of small arms, but maybe that train wasn't carrying weapons.

While the main character slept at the cabin I was sure the weird guy sabotaged the Jeep so it wouldn't start. I also thought he was gonna take the Sig and point it at the main guy or not give it back to try and hold the couple there.
