The title is self explanatory but I just purchased a pistol and wondering how much is an average transfer fee for one? Don’t want to over pay or hear that for pistols it’s different if it’s not.

Depends on the ffl. I have seen 25-75 bucks same for rifle or pistol.

Around southern Westchester, it seems like $50-75 is typical for handguns, $25 for rifles.

Memory serves the last time I did it was 30 for a rifle. I did 3 handguns at once for 60 bucks IIRC.

$40 for my new place. Previous place was $30 but they moved to Arizona. Can't blame them...

Yea, but the law is unenforced. To charge more, places that want to do so charge the max amount for a transfer fee and add another charge as a "service fee" or something. NYS doesn't care. FUAC would probably prefer if stores charged $350 transfer fees.

Person to person or online purchase?
Most charge more for handguns. Dont know if it is because they have to store them till the buyer gets his amendment or what.
The FFL I use in Syr does $10 for private sale and $30 for online.
One FFL wanted $20 from the seller and $20 from the buyer for a personal sale.
The county ( Onandaga) charges $3 for a new card with updated info.
I've had one FFL charge me $0 for a transfer PtoP.
You can check the "find an FFL" pages on the online vendors sites to get an idea of what they charge in your area. The info mat not always be current though.

You might be thinking of the ammo background check fee. One FFL I used once before had a $50 transfer fee..
If I had one local who did $10-$20 I'd be in trouble... not that there's much available now.

My guy does $25 for long guns, $30 for pistols, and $5 for each additional gun in the same transaction.

Worded this a little badly - meant to make a new paragraph between the "ammo background check fee" and the "one FFL I used once..." sentence. The one time I had ammo sent to an FFL it was a $10 fee. On $100 worth of ammo. F dat.
Ammo "fees" would be better spent in gas taking a nice ride to load the trunk on a quiet Sunday with a packed lunch

Yea. One of my favorite stores, and a great store in a lot of ways, but pistol transfer fees are heavy. To be fair, it was $50 til now, and I get why pistol transfers cost a lot down here. Westchester amendments have to be mailed in and the processing time to get your stupid little purchase voucher takes weeks to months when the county clerk's office is operating normally. So the entire time, the handguns are taking up storage space and if a lot of people are buying handguns at the same time, they can take up a lot of dead space.
Hell, my worst one was a few years ago when I waited just under 5 months to get a pistol added to my permit and get that voucher, so it was there at the store just taking up space that whole time. Like 3 months in the store called me to make sure everything was still alright.

The "Safe Act" put no limits on transfer fees charged by an FFL except for private party transfers. That's $10, is BS, and easily skirted. I wouldn't expect any FFL to do any transfer for $10.

You're telling me. I just ordered a new revolver on the 12th. It's hopefully getting to the store this week and then I'm looking at a 6-7 week wait to get my amendment processed based on what seems like the current processing times.

The local Runnings would not do person to person transfers or online puchases. They would only do store purchases.

Just called Jerry’s and transfers are $90. I’m not a mathematician but something doesn’t seem right.
(Some place else)There was a whole (FU) discussion about jerry's. Jerry's use to charge less. Someone contacted him... it seems jerry is not interested in doing transfers any longer. hence the extremely high price (he's busy selling his stuff.)
FFL transfer fee is going to vary from one FFL to another. I've seen some charge $40-75. Did you buy New or Used. Something to keep in mind.. some FFL's around here won't even do a transfer on a new handgun purchased online "if" they also sell or can get the same gun in their store. Other FFL's will charge extra for transferring a "new" handgun that they sell in their store.

Quite some time ago, Runnings - quoted me a price for a transfer fee of $ 75 - but the guy did start his spiel with the words - "you really don't want to do that here - we get $ 75.00 for transfers." --
