How often do you clean your firearms?

I clean my firearms whenever I darn well please. I usually clean any carry or self defense gun shortly after use. On others, I may wait a bit or not depending on my mood, what else I may have to do and so on. I also clean all of them at least two times per year but try for 4 times a year, even if not fired between cleanings. I try to do a fairly detailed strip twice per year as regular cleaning & maintenance.

I'll never forget one sorry basic trainee proudly holding up his freshly cleaned M-14 for the Field First Sergeant to inspect, right in front of my bunk. He was very eloquent and very loud in expressing his displeasure with viewing such a dirty POS that was claimed to be clean. Almost fifty years ago and I bet that guys arm are still sore from the push ups doled out to him! I clean my stuff every time I use it. I take care of them, they will take care of me. Thanks Sarge.

Anything other then my Glocks, I clean them after I shoot them and put them back in the safe clean and wiped with a silicone cloth incase I don't touch them again for a year or who knows.

As for my Glocks I use them all year in competitions and now give them a yearly full complete strip down Ultra Sonic cleaning in January prior to a match in Orlando Fla I attend , I use that as the trigger to clean the fire arms , My EDC, I clean after I use it so I am not getting my clothes dirty.

Depending on the caliber, about every 500 rounds I give it a wipe down. Maybe every 1000 I give a better breakdown and cleaning. For .22 I clean more frequently.

Ok.....the downside of silencers is the mess. Looks like im gonna have to start cleaning the guns and mags......gggrrrrr!

I shot a match this weekend in WV using my scar and a can. Overbight the rounds left in the mag were very ugly. Turning green, corroded, etc etc. i could notbelive it. And this is a piston rifle!

Anyhow. Great zombie match placed 3rd (outta 90)

i pull an otis ripcord through the bore after every range trip, (the first 3-4" of the ripcord gets soaked with slip2000ewl). and because i am one of those idiots who buys piston guns when everyone claims DI is superior, the BCG get a quick disassembly/inspection/reassembly and are greased as needed. if i know that i won't be shooting for a long time and the gun will sit in the safe, i do a thorough detail cleaning: scrub with slip 725 or m-pro7 degreaser, rinse with powder blast, protect/lube pivot pins, trigger group, mag catch, outside of barrel, piston assembly, and bolt catch with eezox. protect bore and lube bcg with slip2000ewl.

home defense gun stays perfectly clean at all times, weekly wipedowns, the whole 9 yards.

what kind of ammo were you shooting? maybe cleaner burning ammo could help? i'm trying to be sympathetic but you do have a scar and a can so there seems to be a silver lining to the problem

I think part of the issue may have been a the cool Misty moaning the edit to the condensation issue which cause the corrosion to happen faster with all the extra heat.

I've had this scar for six or seven years. I put 22 or 23,000 rounds through it. I got the can last month. I'm still able to wreck it out the 500. I was very surprised.

The follow up shots were so fast. The can removes all of the recoil. This rifle doesn't move.
