How to get your pistol permit, by county

As most people are aware, NY requires people to have a pistol permit to buy, own, or carry a pistol. I'd like to collect write ups from every county on exactly how to obtain a permit.

If you have an interest, write one up with as many directions as possible into a thread. PM me once you've done so. I'll organize/collect them and add them to this post. If something changes, or a correction is needed, Start a new thread or PM me and I'll start a thread asking for community input.

I'm writing up the process for Monroe County now.

Go to the county clerk's website here and download the pdf. https://www2.monroecounty.gov/clerk-pistolpermits.php

Make sure to get the city application if you live in the city of Rochester. Get the suburban application if you live outside of city limits.

For suburban residents
Fill out the application (make sure to follow all the directions) and get your references to sign where they need to. When you're ready, drop off the application at the county clerk's office at 39 West Main Street. They'll take your picture (watch out, the flash is crazy bright), have you sign your paperwork, take your money, and quickly go over your paperwork to make sure it's right.
Once you're done at the clerk's, head up to the Public Safety Building at 130 South Plymouth Ave. Tell the officers that you submitted your pistol permit application and that you need to be fingerprinted. They'll take care of you.

That's pretty much it. Start cruising the forums here at nygunforum.com and start looking at pistols. Figure out what you're going to buy when you're approved. The waiting time can vary between 5 and 18 months.
You'll get a phone call from the Monroe County Sheriff doing your background check. As soon as you get it, call your references and give them the heads up. If you have a husband/wife or an ex-husband/wife, the sheriff may call them as well.

After your many month long wait, you'll finally get the permit. Monroe County doesn't put administrative restrictions on the permit. Now it's time to visit our training forum here. Think about signing up for a live fire course.

1. Download, print and fill out the Pistol Permit Pedigree Sheet (PPS-01) - http://www.co.orange.ny.us/filestorage/1162/1372/1488/PPS-01_Pistol_Permit_Pedigree_Sheet.pdf
2. Download, print, fill out and get the Arrest Affidavit form notarized (PPS-02) - http://www.co.orange.ny.us/filestorage/1162/1372/1488/PPS-02_Arrest_Affidavit.pdf
3. Call the Pistol Permit Unit at (845) 291-7932 and make an appointment to be fingerprinted.
4. When you arrive for your fingerprinting appointment, you will need:
   
   • The completed Pistol Permit Pedigree Sheet (PPS-01)
   • Completed and Notarized Arrest / Charge Affidavit (PPS-02)
   • Valid Identification (Driver’s License)
   • A check or Money Order in the amount of $97 made payable to the Orange County Commissioner of Finance
5. Once you are fingerprinted, you will receive the application and will be instructed on how to continue with the process.
