i will appreciate your real life experiences, Thanks.
I heard applying liberal amounts of doe in estrus to your entire body during the rut gets good results.Baith in cat urine.
Real life experience speaking, you will never be able to eliminate your smell to a deer.....I bow hunt a lot, what I do is: Prior to the opening of the season I wash all of my hunting clothes with a scent free detergent (I do run a rinse cycle of water and a small amount of scent free detergent first before actually washing my clothes) and hang them outside to dry and air out. Then I store my clothes in rubber maid totes as well as my pack and boots. I drive to my hunting location usually wearing light clothing/ sweats depending on if I am going from home or work. I get changed at the woods. I spray "scent eliminating" spray on myself, my boots, my pack, my bow etc. I try and not wear my hunting clothing in my truck. When I am done hunting I will change and put stuff back in totes prior to getting in my truck and coming home.....I will try and air out my stuff a few times throughout the season or wash and air dry depending on weather and how busy/ successful I am....If I do harvest anything I wash all my gear again because I usually sweat like a pig dragging.
All in all use the wind. I do use scent free body wash/ shampoo as well as deodorant throughout the season. They are not very expensive and if it helps a little I think it is worth it.
Exactly, movement is the "key". I hunt with a recurve and 75% of my hunting is done on the ground from blow downs or makeshift, natural blinds. Minimal Movement while drawing the bow is critical and so is learning to do it with stealth. I've been close enough to doe and young bucks to reach out and poke them with the arrow if I wanted. This is my routine. I also use scented dryer sheets and usually take a quick shower with unscented soap and ALWAYS wash my hair as thats a problematic area for scents.
This year I got closer to more deer than ever before while bowhunting. Now that we have an active herd by my house, I constantly interact with them to learn more and have come to the conclusion that scents confuse deer, but movement is the real deal killer. Want to see and harvest more deer? Learn how to sit still and make as little movements as possible when standing, drawing, etc.
I find that concealment and quiet is your best trick against deer. I dont bother with scent free anything. Deer will and have grazed and even bedded right under me. Elevation is much more advantageous if you have it. Walking in while using calls also gives you a much closer approach distance. Now if only the big ones show up.
Shhhhhhh.....at least I dont have to ask permission to hunt...u know from who.His deer are tethered on a dog run so take that into consideration.
