We've been needing a generator for a while now but just can't pool together enough for a good one. Wife uses an O² concentrator so electricity is essential.
Was considering a used military diesel generator but even those are commanding high prices.

Part of my game plan is having some good sleeping bags . I have bought wiggy sleeping bags and they seem to be the real deal. They have sleeping systems for different temp ratings.

About 5 years ago I got panicked about loss of electricity.
Swapped out the electric stove for a propane one. Heat and hot water is also propane.
I also bought a genny and wired the house so it’s a plug n play.
We also have some solar lights that we keep in all the south facing windows.
Propane fireplace in the living room also

you can't beat a Honda generator, they are dead quiet, which is what you want when your the only guy with power. They are also expensive
a noisy generator will have all the neighbors over asking if they can bum off your power.

A good one in my mind will be diesel, most likely $3-4000. Diesel stores extremely well and easy to come by, and a diesel engine can sit without use for extended times and still fire right up like it was run yesterday.
Propane would be my next choice but I've had regulators and propane carbs freeze up causing problems.

Between diesel and kero, I usually have 50 gallons or so for my truck. Mix kero in winter. In worst case there's farms or trains everywhere for fuel lol.

I'm not 100% sure of this, but after the debacle of Super Storm Sandy, I believe gas stations in NY are now required to have backup gennies to make sure they can pump fuel in a power out scenario.

Back when obozo was in office my wife and I went out west to CA. in a gas powered coach, while coming back we saw gas hit $5.00 a gal in IL. and it got a whopping 10mpg! Hope you don't have the same problem.

Either your line size or tank size is off. I converted my 5k portable to run on propane. Runs quieter and cleaner. Ran 72 hours straight a few years ago. Used less than 20 gallons of propane. I have 2x100# cylinders dedicated for the genny.

I have a 20 year old Generackit, Gennerac, slightly used generator. 6500 watt surge, rope pull model.
Has always been stubborn to pull start for me but never failed with a squirt of ether.

I have a small generator with a Tecumseh engine but the damn thing won't run for shit. Carb problems, even after repeated cleanings and rebuild. So it's been taking up space doing nothing.
My bad experiences with propane may have been from previous owner not doing things right.
