I've been investing in my hand tool collection for years. Been doubling up on garden tools as well. Doing it on the cheap at garage and estate sales. Only buying truly useful stuff. At thrift stores over the years fleece and winter clothing.

I grew up working on a farm over the years and then on merchant marine ships. Nothing goes to waste and there are multiple creative ways to solve problems.

My only regret is not having a still. Yet....

I've even bought timber saws with the tool to set and file them.

It's not though. It's already happening. We're in the first stage. Property ownership for the purpose of renting to tenants is now illegal in NY. It has been since the start of COVID.

You can't evict but gov't can seize the property. It will start in big cities with massive property seizures for delinquent taxes. Nobody will buy these properties (as they won't be able to evict the non-paying tenants) so the state will "convert" them into public housing. As properties are seized and the flow of tax revenue stops (landlords not paying taxes, tenants not paying rent), the gov't will be left no choice but to raise taxes on the rest of us. More won't be able to afford so they'll continue seizing property.

The good news is you'll probably be able to stay in your home as the eviction freeze is likely permanent.

The bad news is the gov't now owns the house and gets to tell you what to do with it (not much different than the way it is now).

Oh you own guns? Sorry can't have those on gov't property.

More than two years ago, de Blasio moved to seize "distressed" NYC properties and transfer ownership to "non profits". One could argue that such seizure of homes and property is not yet wide spread, but these tactics need to start small before they grow.
