I agree with you 100 percent but If given the choice of one or the other, I'd take carrying a pistol for personal protection anywhere everytime.
My fully featured AR at home does me no good out on the street.
I have a hard time arguing against that point of view because I know in my heart it is right. I just take it as a huge insult that I was willing to lay my life down for this country have a high level clearance. Then I move home and am no longer trustworthy enough to own the most common rifle in the united states. one again FUAC and anyone that had anything to do with the un-safe act.

The problem I see with the current crop of bills proposed for national reciprocity do not address situations like we have here wherein NYC is exempt. People would still not be able to carry there.

NYS needs a preemption clause. A lot of states have them. That way at least the laws would be the same for NYC as the rest of the state. In reality, there should be a preemption clause for the Bill of Rights. As in, it preempts any federal or state law, which it really does but laws are still passed on the state and federal level that undermine and usurp it.

Last year I closed on a home here in this shithole. I could have gone 40 minutes in either direction on 84 to PA for a fully featured AR or CT for a fully featured preban AR. I weighed my options carefully and I stayed put because I would then have lost the ability to protect myself here in this state where my employment, friends, and family are.
Had reciprocity been in effect, my decision would have been different. But you know something, it isn't illegal as you know to have a different stock and grip. I go to PA ranges and in less then 3 minutes, I'm back in business like a normal human being except for not having a muzzle device.

NYC may be exempt to us because our home state license is not valid in NYC as per the Penal Law but not for someone from CT. NYC would be forced to accept the reciprocity.

Reciprocity is reciprocal. So I think NYC would just have to accept it's just a city in a union of states and is there for not as important as it thinks.

Right but reciprocity is for one state to recognize another. Being that we already have NY licenses, NYC doesn't have to accept ours. They would however have to recognize an out of state license as per Federal Law.
We would still have restricted licenses in counties that issue them and still be off limits to NYC since we aren't from out of state.

If NYC is going to recognize another state's permit, but not it's own, it either has to lose its "special status" or become it's own district/territory which doesn't have any pull in the rest of the state or union.

NYC is not going the extra mile. It'll follow the bare minimum that Federal Law forces on them.
Previous reciprocity bills that failed always said that individual states set their standards on issuance to it's own residents.
Because I can carry in Westchester with an Orange county permit, nobody is rushing for equality there and in other restricted counties. They would rather have the occasional carrier from another county then have all is residents carry.
I see this as no different.

Never liked them. Believe me I tried after Howard was going antigun often before his epiphany.
