Hunter Gored by Deer He Thought He Shot and Killed

YELLVILLE, A.R. — An experienced Arkansas hunter was found severely injured in the woods Tuesday night, his body riddled with antler puncture wounds. He later died.
The 66-year-old man from Yellville had shot a deer and made plans with his nephew to field dress the deer’s body together, police told CNN.
When his nephew found him, the hunter was alert and talking and was even able to call his wife. But he stopped breathing by the time paramedics could get him to the hospital, the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission said.

The fact he is dead proves this statement to be untrue.

It was a thick 10 point and I got a bit excited when it dropped instantly from the shot.
I was at the deers side 30 seconds after I shot it.
I went to poke its eye.....then he blinked, then jumped up and ran about 30 yards. Then he dropped dead.
Thats the day I understood the practice of waiting awhile before approaching a downed deer.

When I approach a downed deer I do it from behind and touch his eye with the rifle barrel (finger on the bang switch) then he gets my pig sticker in the throat. I'm way more concerned about being gutted by a hoof than being gored.

Hunter becoming hunted. Wouldn't want to die that way.
My former mother in law shot a buck one year, forget if it was a 6 or 8pt. Shot it in the head. She walked up to it, picked up the head by the antlers and let it back down. Turned around to call for help to drag it out and when we came out of the woods the damn thing was running across the field lol.

My very FIRST Deer I ever got that sorta happened with me too. I shot it..dropped like a stone...waited......like 30 minutes and I figured ok its dead. walked up to it..startled it and it was flailing around on the ground shot it again in the chest. My BIL and I looked closer when he got there and I basically spine shot it!! so it dropped from being paralized and not dead!!!! but the HUGE hole is the chest did the job. It made a mess!! basically point blank with a shot gun Slug!!!! eewww

scared the crap out of me...and I scared him too!!!!!
