hunting with crossbows in NY width

Hi, I got a question about hunting with crossbows in NY; so I want a ten point rdx 400, and it is not quite wide enough. Could i add material to the end of the limbs to make it legal? I have looked all over and can find no one else talking about this, and no laws against it. I would add about a 9/16 of an inch of material on each side. Could i do this?

I doubt that would be the case! However, I would write to the DEC and get it in writing. Print it out and carry the answer with you after you laminate it.

I have a Parker xbow from a few yrs ago .. .. not Shure of the model but looks like this .. came with scope .. my bud just used it last weekend and got a big doe ..

As someone that works on and sells archery products in a pro shop (not a boxstore as those are NOT a pro shop) do NOT add anything to the end of the limbs!! Ever!! You will create something extremely dangerous and you'll void ANY warranty by doing so. The numbers that the "law makers" picked are ridiculous to say the least. There are LOTS of people hunting with Ravens, Bear X, Ten Point and others that do not meet the "minimum 17" limb end to limb end uncocked". There is NO reason at all for such a regulation. The other BS number they chose to throw in there is a 200lb max poundage. Not too many Excalibur's out there UNDER 200lbs!!! This is what happens when the uneducated are allowed to make laws and regulations. Buy the one you want and enjoy the hunt. Remember .... you can use the crossbow in every season once crossbow starts providing you have the corresponding tags for those seasons. Good luck to you.

I’m not sure.

I won’t recommend anything but I will say that if you go hunting with an xbow that is a bit too thin the odds of a DEC officer ever seeing you let alone stopping you are infinitesimal. I’d be surprised if even one person a year in the entire state is charged for a thin xbow. And wouldn’t be surprised if it’s as little as once a decade. Or maybe even never.

Your guess is as good as mine. Never heard of anyone getting charged with such non sense. Now, should you get caught poaching well ... the crossbow specs are the least of your worries.

Where is it archery season still? There aren't as many archers in the woods as one would think. If you piss one off ... oh well. I use a bow all the way through, although I don't get alot of time to go, and I could care less if someone is hunting with a gun ... IN RIFLE SEASON!! Imagine that!! LOL

The too narrow law probably was put to our legislators by the company that bought its way into NY making them legal in the first place, because they didn't have a model that narrow. Hey, its NY, thats how it works.

Don’t know for sure but probably less than anew crossbow of course you also run the risk of confiscation but that just puts you back to needing a new crossbow.

Probably a re-education camp. NY can't have people interpreting the laws for what they are i.e. stupid.
