The Left would have you believe he should have let the guys into his home, allowed them to ransack it, beat him up, rape his wife, and be glad about it because he didn't defend himself or his wife and be extra super proud that he didn't use a gun.

I'd be okay trying it in NY and you'd be legally fine doing so, as you can use lethal force to defend a third party who's life is in danger as long as doing so would be deemed reasonable by others.
This isn't the UK. I think our self defense laws are really not too bad here (no idea about NYC).

Key word here is gunpoint! Do you think for some reason your loved one being attacked, held, robbed or worse with a deadly weapon is not a justifiable defense for using deadly force?
You are programmed, exactly the way "THEY" want you to be, that you think "YOU" must obey the law while others break it committing a criminal act against you. That hesitation can cost you your life!
For the matter, Texas allows deadly force even for the simple protection of property, so all things must be considered as this example is so far from Cuomostan it isn't funny.
My point is that heaven forbid you are faced with a life preservation event, act and act decisively because any momentary hesitation can be costly and the dividends gained by worrying about ramifications post event may not be something you or your loved one's can live with.
